    Engineering books

I got lot of answers for the threads, loadind strength from Machinary's Handbook. Its got lot of important engineering information.

Load calculations for the square plate

Thanks all. Prex that link is really useful. I will look for the Roark formula.

Load calculations for the square plate

Hi, I have to calculate strength( stresses) on a square steel plate (24" x24") with four supports on the corners and hole(4") in the middle. Plate is 3" thick. Laod applied is 500k lbs. thanks savalakh

    Load Strength Calculations for threads.

Hi desertfox, Thanks. Yes you are right, there are detials at page 1499 on Unified standard hex nuts. regards savalakh

    Load Strength Calculations for threads.

Hi desertfox, thanks again for the information. I have another question, what about the outer dia. of the nut. e.g. for 2'-12 UN Nut, what should be outer dia 3" , 4" or more. (actually it is the flat size for spanner) how can we calculate this based on our load. I tried in the Machinary's...

    Modelling of Threads on DesignSpace

I have modelled a 2"-12 UN threaded shaft used in a compression and tension cage. Is it possible to model the loading on the threads in DesignSpace or promechanica.

    Load Strength Calculations for threads.

Hi desertfox, Thanks for the reply. Also to confirm that for tensile stress only one thread area is to be used for load calculations.

    Load Strength Calculations for threads.

Calculating how much laod a 2"-12 UN thread Nut 2 inch thickness can take. Material is Mild Steel. Machinary's Handbook give the tensile stress area per sq. inch. But where does the thickness of the bolt plays part.
