Welding on a pipe filled with cold water

SEWER WATER AT ABOUT 50 F THE WELD WILL CONNECT A BRKT TO RESIST APPROX 40 K OF THRUST FORCE AT ABOUT 6 TO 8 ECCENTRICITY (240 K-IN TO 320 K0-IN MOMENT)

Welding on a pipe filled with cold water

That's what I thought and wanted to hear. Thank you all

Welding on a pipe filled with cold water

Is it possible to achieve a weld on the outside surface of 36" diameter 1/2" thick pipe while it is filled with water? Thank you

    PIPE SADDLE SUPPORT DESIGN

RLC32681 You did not mention the thickness of your pipe. Even though the saddle may work structurally the pipe may fail locally. The maximum local stress usually occurs just above the tips of the saddle. Regular pipe stress analysis software do not check local stress.

Steam Piping Crossing Building Seismic Joints

Not sure if this is the right forum but I will try. We have a steam pipe crossing a seismic expansion joint between two building with differential building movements but the Mechanical EOR doens not want to provide flexibility into his/her system and obviously, the owner takes their advise...

Welding on the Webs v Flanges of Existing Steel Beams

a2mfk You sound just like the EOR in question but what puzzles me is that he is an ME and you are a "STRUCTURAL" designing big steel frames buildings. How can you think the same? Perhaps you can go back and check your steel framed "buildings" for the additional load due to dust buildup...

Welding on the Webs v Flanges of Existing Steel Beams

hokie66. Simply supported supplementary steel between beams cannot induce any torsion on the existing members and the load on the column is around 150 lbs with a 1 ft moment arm. Mmax(weak) = 0.175 kip-ft about 10 ft above the base of a W14 column. If that creates a weak axis problem to the...

Welding on the Webs v Flanges of Existing Steel Beams

It is very dificult to explain cross flange welding and residual stresses to ME's via e-mailing. Perhaps, if I direct them to this tread they may be convinced that I am not the only one concerned with welding on flanges of loaded beams. BTW - The loading is very minor as compared to the steel...

Welding on the Webs v Flanges of Existing Steel Beams

We have designed some supplementary steel members, suporting equipment and piping, to be welded on the web of existing steel beams, this way we avoid cross flange welding and residual stresses. The EOR does not like the idea and insists on welding the members to the bottom (tension) flange of...

    Welding on 1904 Steel

I am sorry. Disregard this thread. I have found a thread 725-167138 & thread507-167093. Thanks anyway

    Welding on 1904 Steel

We need to weld on structural steel building build in 1904. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thank you

    STAAD LIMITATION

TLHS It does. Thank you. Can you recommend an alternative method or software. Are you or anyone you know willing to take a shot at it for the right $'s obviously. (Not sure if I can say this in this forum....?) Once again thanks

Pipe Supports Before and After Sleeve Couplings

Duwe6 Thanks I agree the pipe will balance itself over the support but the loading on the suport (DW only approx 54 kips) and the local stresses at the supports are way up there. Thanks

Pipe Supports Before and After Sleeve Couplings

We have a 92" water filled pipe supported at approximately 12 ft OC. However, at every other support there is a Sleeve (Depend-O-Lock) coupling at approximatelly 10 ft away from one support and 2 ft away from the other. Personnally, I don't feel comfortable having a 92" pipe overhaning over the...

    STAAD LIMITATION

ToadJOnes I dont have the problem anymore because I increased the element sizes, therefore, reduced their qunatity by almost 50%. I agree with your comment about "knife edge" but in this case my model includes the 120 degrees 3/4" thick pipe saddle with stiffeners etc. and that is why I had...
