Metengr,
Thanks for the reply. I tensiled some samples, to ASTM A370 annex A2, parts were held by pneumatic grips. The tubes were formed via extrusion, but past that have not seen any more processing. The failure was also as expected.

Tom
Hi All
I am looking to find out if anyone has any input on whether tensile testing a micro-tube (OD 0.66mm, ID 0.48mm) made from 304ss would be accurate enough to derive material properties e.g. tensile modulus, uts, yield stress etc..
Or is it more appropriate to use larger, solid...
Hi all,
I am running a static general step, with general contact defined & frictionless intprop.
I have a initial inc size of 0.001 and min of 1e-08 with max number of incs set to 1000.
The model is a tube deflecting off a bend in a larger tube, and as they come into contact, Abaqus cannot...
So I was having difficulty meshing the transition region (sloped), with the hex elements that I used for the other 2 regions. a free tet mesh was all I was able to apply, despite numerous attempts at partitioning. As I am new to the software and am still learning, perhaps I am missing a way that...
Hi all
I have a simple analysis, where a long tube is displaced into a large tube that features a bend. The idea is to look at the stress distributions along the tube as it deforms around the bend.
I have been using a dynamic explicit step to run this, using shell geometries to date, and it...
I used face partitioning, selected the OD along with the ID of the tube. There is a partition line on both OD and ID to indicate that its cut through. But it's as if it only partitioned those faces and not the entire body? Using that method I thought it should cut through entirely.
Query says...
Hello again
I am having trouble assigning different material properties to a single extruded part. I was able to do it successfully to an extruded shell part, via partitioning the part and assigning the props to the two unique sets that were allowed to be created.
However when I follow this...
Thank you very much. I think my issue lied in my displacing boundary condition, I did not defined 0 displacement in the other axes.
Again thank you for this! I can build on this! All about that learning curve!

Hi all
So im trying to run what I think is a simple problem, that ive described in a previous thread. All I want to do is advance a tube into a small long tube, into a large tube with a bend, and measure the deflection of the small tube as it deforms around the inside curve of the large tube...
Hi IceBreakerSours
I'm modelling the PTCA procedure. Not the entire procedure but just insertion of a balloon catheter into and around some artery model with a level of tortuosity. I'm quantifying trackability and pushability for different catheter designs. The varying design parameters relate...
So in reality the surgeon advances the tube (catheter) into the artery, and the tube deflects around the bend of the artery as it is advanced.
I'm only modelling the bend as a rigid body as I do not care for any field outputs experienced by the bend. I suppose if it causes an issue I can just...
Hi all
I have a part (long tube) that I want to displace and deform around a bend. Think of it as inserting a catheter into an artery and it bending around a radius of curvature.
How can I do this in Abaqus CAE/Explicit? I am new to learning this (have done some problems in college, and have a...
