Hi all

So im trying to run what I think is a simple problem, that ive described in a previous thread. All I want to do is advance a tube into a small long tube, into a large tube with a bend, and measure the deflection of the small tube as it deforms around the inside curve of the large tube.

I initially was trying to model the large tube as rigid, however I kept getting errors saying that there were assembly sets undefined? Searching for help relating to this error online did not help. I tried modelling the large tube as an analytical rigid, assigning a ref point and constraining the point as a rigid point in interactions. Couldn't work. Then tried to model the tube as deformable with rigid constraint on a ref point again, no joy. I then tried it again as deformable, meshed it, constrained the whole part with encastre (as I dont want it to go anywhere), and the job ran, but would not complete, was running indefinitely so had to kill it (I left it a while in case it was still processing but seemed to be stuck on the initial step).

This is really bugging me and I cannot tell where I am going wrong, I can happily provide files if someone is able to point me in the correct direction as to how i am going about this in the wrong way. I apologise for the long post and my naievity, I am only working with abaqus for the last few months.

thank you in advance

Regards,
Tom

You should find attached a very simple example that I've created in app. 3 minutes. I've used a shell rod to make it run fast.

Thank you very much. I think my issue lied in my displacing boundary condition, I did not defined 0 displacement in the other axes.

Again thank you for this! I can build on this! All about that learning curve!

Tom
