Dear EdStainless
This is the micro structure after heating to 2210 F, cool to RT, annealed at 2150 F and water quench. Stabilizing at what temp will help me get results in this material?
if yellow then NAB
if glittering white then IN625
if pale and ancient look then Monel 400 or 500 whatever
all will last centuries unless a disaster struck.
regards
Dear #EdStainless
Heated to 1175° C, soaked for 2 Hrs, Water Quenched. Stabilizing to 970° C, soaked for 4 Hrs, Forced air cooled.
Results are not achieved. Please provide your valuable input.
Dear EdStainless and MagBen
Sorry for the late reply. I had a busy schedule last week. Agreed that 0.36% of impurity will never be accepted by the client. To tkae samples for a trial is not possible at will cost me dear. As mentioned that it could form harmful carbides has convinced me to drop...
Dear EdStainless
I have the same concerns but simultaneously I am curious to know if someone has experienced the effects of Hf. I read an article which says that Hf is used in turbine rods of a nuclear submarine as it is good absorbent of protons. Also an article claimed that an addition of...
I want to produce CW6MC Castings with virgin metal and so I have been offered Niobium-Hafnium Alloy (90% Nb and 10 Hf) by the seller. To add 3.25% of Nb the metal will have Hf - 0.36% in the metal. I doubt if this level of impurity might affect the castings. I am not sure what the effect it may...

This material is austenitic and UT will not work. Pls note that the lines observed in RT is not due to any physical presence but due to structure density and its variations. Even DPT does not show any discontinuity.
@weldstan
O I C. Here that is not the case. Your findings may be true and there must be some defective films but in my case I have tried it with multiple company films and results are same. So this rule out the possibility of defective unexposed films. Thank you
Recently I produced castings of the said grade. Melting done by Induction Furnace and Raw Material is Ingots made of INCONAL 625. All is good and castings are NSD in RT, but the films have revealed some dark lines in a particular geometry which is quite visible in all films. the client is asking...
