    flare header purge

At the flare tip, it is clear what purge rates to use, depending on the seal if it is velocity seal or molecular seal or just a utility flare. However, if there are a number of headers and subheaders in the relief system, each has to be purged, both at intermittent rates (e.g. during startup to...

    Multiple flares and thermal radiation

Yes all go at the same time. The duration would be more than a few minutes. If I want to find the minimum height for the flares, the assumption of adding the radiations may not be the best assumption (too conservative). It seems to me that the presence of a flare nearby will pull the flames...

    Multiple flares and thermal radiation

API 521 states: "The impact of multiple flares in proximity operating simultaneously needs to be considered when evaluating thermal radiation." What we have is a case of several flare stacks/risers in parallel in close proximity, so they are almost in the same location. The question is whether...

    Pipeline underground or aboveground

Biginch: I am a chemical engineer, not a mechanical engineer, doing some research, not any type or phase of design. In my projects we have installed Ethafoam successfully to manage expansion of pipelines with changes in temperature, this designed by certified stress engineers. Ethafoam is...

    Pipeline underground or aboveground

I do not think so, irony and sarcasm do not belong in any serious forum, as by nature they are potentially confusing and in some cases be also passive-agressive.

    Pipeline underground or aboveground

I do not think that irony is a way to make a point in this kind of forum. Anyway, Ethafoam is a product that may help in some situations to help deal with pipeline expansions, not all of them.

    Turndown ratio of separator vessels

Am I correct to suppose that the turndown ratio (capacity utilization) of 1. A two phase separator vessel 2. An three phase separator vessel is from 0-100%? In other words, they can operate at minimum capacity from 0 to 100% with no technical issues. This is about the vessel, I know that the...
