PORE PRESSURE VARIATION IN LOOSE SOIL WITH DEPTH

Just as precation, are you installing driven piles? Negative pore water pressures on a CPT is a red flag for pile design. Negative pore water pressures can be indicative of a pile relaxing and losing capacity! Perform a load test after a couple of weeks to ensure the capacity at EOD is maintained.

Compressive Strength of Rock Cores at Natural Moisture Content

FHWA Drilled Shaft Manual (section 13.3.5.3) requires uniaxial compressive strength testing of the rock at its natural moisture content. How can you get cores at natural moisture content when you are coring with water? This is also a requirement of ASTM 4543. Thanks!

    Pile Capacity

Good Day Alex - There are about 1,282 different parameters that can affect pile design. Type of pile, length, closed end/open ended, plugged/unplugged, concrete, timber, steel, stresses during driving, setup time. Then you have to consider all of the different ways to calculate the capacity...

Guidelines for Maximum allowed height of temporary shoring with out tie-backs

I prefer slopes. [thumbsup2] If you insist on a wall, I second the calfornia trenching and shoring manual for sheet piles and soldier pile and lagging. I have used SupportIt computer program with pretty good success. Don't think about cantilever walls over 15 feet. There are lots of other...

    Settlement/Collapse Potential in Silty Sand

Hello World - First time question, long time reader. Big, big fan of all the helpful information on this forum [bigsmile] Here is my situation: We have a 7' swimming pool being constructed in 17' of loose(bpf of 4-7) silty sand to sandy silt (borderline, a typical wash indicates 52% sand) of...
