Can no longer copy properties in SW 2017

Yes, I believe you could just use notepad as well. Another workaround is opening two instances of SW and switch w/out closing the property window in the other.

Can no longer copy properties in SW 2017

Anyone else have this problem? I use this trick extensively. Select multiple rows in custom properties ctrl+c then paste them all into another part and edit as needed. No longer works since installing 2017!

Flat head Socket Cap Screw Head depth?

pylfrm, I need this measurement for the c'sink depth. I just measured and hope its accurate enough. I'll be safe if its c'sunk a little too deep. I'm not the one doing the machining so I have to give this info to the machiner who I don't know if he has our screw types. He referred to Master...

Flat head Socket Cap Screw Head depth?

On Master Carr a 1/2 head depth is .251 Link However, when I measure mine its closer to .295. Isn't there a standard or am I measuring wrong?

    edit excel based bom template

felix7502, this may work, it would still require me going through all my parts/assemblies and updating the custom properties to show the folder path. The native SW BOM uses windows folder locations of the part to populate the BOM. That is what I was hoping to include in my Excel version. Thanks!

    edit excel based bom template

The first shows the typical SW table with a column for folder name added and the locations are generated. For an Excel based BOM you start one from a template. However, the supplied templates aren't very tailored (no folder name). I want one similar to the SW BOM but with the advantage of it...

    edit excel based bom template

Trying to find out how to edit the excel bom template to include a column for Solidworks folder name so that I can keep track of the locations of all parts in an assembly (w/out opening SW). What needs to be typed in the Name Box in Excel to get this to work? For example, for part numbers you...

Select Evaluated Value in Solidworks Properties

The Evaluated Value for Solidworks custom properties is not selectable. Is there any way to make it selectable? Would be useful to have filename ($PRP:"SW-File Name") generated and then I could grab and copy to part # and edited. Our filename is the part # and a description. Or...

copy drawing sheets loses location reference

I usually right click, copy, paste to end. I tried dragging sheet into other drawing and I am still losing my dims - turning yellow.

copy drawing sheets loses location reference

I like to compile all my assembly part drawings into one drawing with several sheets. A lot of times whenever I copy the drawing sheet from a part into my multi sheet drawing the dimensions will turn yellow, meaning it lost the dim reference. This happens even though the same part is being...

    Strategy for printing?

Thanks! What would be wonderful is if Solidworks would open drawings straight from the BOM! As of now it only opens parts from the BOM and then you can open drawing from the part but it only auto opens if it is in the same folder, otherwise you have to browse for it. Have the parts tag when it...

    Strategy for printing?

Thanks drawoh! Sounds like a very good idea for making your own searchable "database" - create a webpage. I'm a little familiar with HTML so I'll have to look into this. Could take a little time to write but may be worth it. Might find a way to automate part of this process. Would be...

    Strategy for printing?

We probably aren't going the PDM route. Saving all PDF's in one location sounds like a good idea however if there are over 10,000 pdf's I would still have to do a search on each individually. PDFill PDF tools lets me do all the pdf rearranging.

    Strategy for printing?

I work with a lot of parts shared across many assemblies and they are often modified. The drawings can end up in various locations. When it comes time to print drawings for an assembly I have to go and hunt down where each drawing is. I'm looking for ideas on how to streamline. I'm currently...

Swept cut on a rectangle solves it.

    Flex feature on profile extrude

Good Morning! :) So I did a simple profile and extrude and I need a bend in it so I used the flex feature and it wants to automatically put a twist in it as well. I think this is because it is not a perfectly rectangular piece and it is putting the triad in the wrong place (a simple bend on a...

    Procedure for sheet metal

Thanks for the tips! Yes, rule #1 of sheet metal is don't create a feature after the flat pattern. Usually don't post until I fought it for awhile. Good to have a place I can ask questions and refer back to when I need to.

    Procedure for sheet metal

I was working on a u-shaped part and was patterning holes from one side to the other in flat, then when I folded it they would dissapear w/ errors. Anyway, I found a workaround by just keeping it in fold and extending the first hole through both walls - so it's basically one hole. For some...

    Procedure for sheet metal

Is there an order to go in when constructing sheet metal parts? I get my part modeled and then have problems when I get to the drawing view and spend a long time folding/undfolding creating unfolds, watching my hole patterns or mirrors not function any longer. It has something to do with the...
