    thread237-482580 I believe some

thread237-482580 I believe some of the Pre J1939 Cat units are difficult to use the Deep Sea panels because Cat did not bring out J1939. The Cat D3456 engine for example.

    induction motor speed variations

We have two new identical 350hp, 50hz, 1500rpm , 380v motors (derated from 400hp, 460, 60hz) running on sheaves and belt driven common shaft. We are showing a 2 rpm difference between the two motors. (And significant load differences) How much, if any, rpm differential is allowed by NEMA or...

    how to measure belt slippage

Yes, two 500hp motors on one shaft. And when both are running the load can vary from no load to something approaching full load. If I sense amp draw then I would need to look at the amp draw differential between the two motors. If the belts are gone or slipping excessively on motor A (the...

    how to measure belt slippage

Tmoose, The drivers are induction motors and is not on a VFD.(One motor has soft start) We have two motors on a common shaft and the end users (overseas) do not want to do proper routine maintenance to check belt tension so then they have burned the belts off one motor( that motor will...

    how to measure belt slippage

Does anyone know of a simple and relative inexpensive device to measure belt slippage between the driver and the driven ( v belts and pulleys)? I want to have an alarm or fault shutdown if the slippage increases to a preset limit. Generally we are dealing with 5V and 8V sheaves and usually...

    generator avr

Actually I had a lot of misinformation at the time. We did not install the generators. Upon opening the units we found that the one unit that did not fail did have a small conductor neutral to ground. The one unit that did have a problem with the AVR did not have the neutral grounded. We...

    generator avr

We are puzzled regarding (#2 generator) a 400kw gen set on a oil rig. The generator is 480 wye ungrounded neutral. The generator is a WEG which has a separate power circuit for the AVR and it senses off of the 240volt inter connections. The AVR is single phase. There are many 480volt three...

Voltage regulators - you can set a clock by.

Or the mov could be shorted. But kind of interesting that both units are doing the same thing??

4160V Generator Marathon (MTU) Failed during start up

I would be a little suspicious if it was involved in an accident. Hope it was not dropped.

    Generac Gensets vs The Rest

We have worked on many different brand names of generator sets for more than 35 years. I can offer a few comments as follows: Caterpillar- The SR4(Magnetek) required more power to excite than Marathon (for example) so the AVR was more expensive, early versions had the bridge inboard so all...

    Generator hunting problem

It most likely has an electronic governor. I would check the stabilty gain first and then the magnetic pickup for metal filings. Then I would troubleshoot the governor controller and actuator. Assuming all wire terminations are secure.

    Diesel vs. propane

A Kubota L4400HST is only 45hp. We build PTO that are 160kw three phase so it would not be difficult to find a PTO set that would exceed the power available from the Kubota.

RVAT starting question for large well motor

I agree that the secondary transformer may be too small. But I would like to see the motor data that states a 450hp motor will accelerate to full rpm in .8sec. We build machines with motors from 300hp to 800hp , 480volt motors. All are soft started. We currently set the soft starts at 30...

Gen Size For A 100 Hp motor

I would expect the 275kva or 220kw genset to start the 100hp motor across the line. Starting DOL I would expect to see the AVR life span shortened significantly. Electronic governors are superior to mechanical or hydraulic mechanical. I can not say now many Woodwards we have tossed in the...

Maybe somebody could help me with SR4B generator?

If the exciter fields, exciter rotor and main stator and fields are within specs, and the exciter bridge is ok, then disconnect the vr and apply 12 DC voltage to the field wires, and run the unit. You should get voltage out of the unit and the voltage should be the same for all three phases...

    conductor sizing for electric motor

We have a 400hp, 60hz, 575volt, fla 360, electric motor on a portable machine. We want to use a portable power cable such as 3/c type W. We would also consider single conductor type W, DLO or G. Cut sheets for Type W show that 3/C is rated 350amps for 350mcm, 430 amps for 400mcm, 460amps for...

    flashing 3 phase generator

I would think that if you only have .9 ohm across the fields you have a problem with the field windings. .9 ohms is far too low for the Kohler. Check further for shorted windings. 6v on the fields ( with the avr out of the circuit) should bring the output to well over 100volts. But ohm's law...

    REPLACE DIESEL WITH ELECTRIC MOTOR

Hello All, Just to let you know that the 300hp electric, 60hz, 460v,1800rpm that was derated to 50hz, 380volts, 1500rpm performed in actual testing very well (as compared to the 340hp net diesel engine (375hp less about 35 parasitic HP)Please note that I had a typo in my original post wherein...

    REPLACE DIESEL WITH ELECTRIC MOTOR

Hi Jraef, This project has slowed a bid since we do not have to deliver the machines until Sep. We are continuing to design and have some building done. We should be testing in late Aug. We will not allow belt slipage as we will have enough belts to prevent slipage. We transmit up to 1000HP...
