I'll take CATIAJIM's suggestion one step further.
Create a temporary view to create your geometry in and copy paste it into the unupdated view. Then the geometry is in the view you want and you can delete the tempory view.

A quick correction to my last post.
I use a SpaceMouse too, not a Spaceball. One nice feature of it is the ablity to add macros. I've added the macro for the Enter key to allow me to quickly select the default in menues.
