Single BOM showing all parts in 8 related assemblies?

Well guys, again thanks for the added inputs. CBL, I am using SW2012 SP 1.0. The only macro I utilized to finish this job was an Excel macro to merge the 7 Excel worksheets rather than cut & paste them. To further clarify things my goal was to export the master BOM in a way that would not...

Single BOM showing all parts in 8 related assemblies?

Updraft, Thanks for the added clarification. Allow me if you will to further refine this particular drawing hierarchy and please advise if your last advice makes sense for it. With 1 being the top level dwg the hierarchy is as follows: 3, 6 & 8 report to 2; 7 reports to 6; 5 reports to 4; 4...

Single BOM showing all parts in 8 related assemblies?

Eric, Thank you very much for your response. Perhaps I should have made it more clear that these 7 sublevel dwgs report to the top level dwg in somewhat of a chained fashion. I will look into the indented option some more. Thanks also for the note about being able to create a BOM w/o first...

Single BOM showing all parts in 8 related assemblies?

Updraft, Do you mean make a new, additional TL assembly inserting all 87 components? I understand that would work but too tedious when I already have the eight drawings perfectly structured. CBL, I tried all 3 available options. 'Top Level Only' and 'Indented' provided the same BOM - only 17...

Single BOM showing all parts in 8 related assemblies?

Hi: I have a top level drawing with 7 related subassemblies all residing in separate drawings (8 drawings in total & a total of 87 parts). I would like to export the BOM info for all 87 parts directly into a single Excel file. Is there a direct way to do this without resorting to macros? If not...

mouse gestures - dial/wheel not appearing!

Hi, I am using 3Dconnexion Space Navigator in combination with Logitech notebook mouse. When I hold RMB in the view port using the mouse the mouse gesture dial/wheel doesn't appear as it does on my colleague's machine. My colleague is using only a mouse. We are both on 2012 SP 1.0. Funny thing...

Centrality of bore intersection - how specify using GD&T?

In Detail -C- I want the intersection of the C.L. of the 2.0 DIA. sloped hole to intersect the C.L. of the flat bottom tap drill for the 1/4-28 threaded hole at the bottom surface of the tap drill. How should I specify this using GD&T? Walter

    Overlapping bosses

Thanks to both of you. Yup, I tried it and adding the draft afterwards does the trick. I just wonder why it has to be done in that sequence. I would prefer being able to pre-draft. In fact the tapered bosses in my manifold were actually done as revolves.

    Overlapping bosses

I am currently modeling a manifold which has a series of drafted bosses that must overlap slightly. I can not pattern the seed with either linear pattern or with sketch driven pattern. They show in the preview but won't execute. Is there a way to force the completion of this command...

    sweep issue on ellipsoid

I'd like to have the guru's at Solidworks weigh in on this. I have yet to post the question on their forum where they do seem to weigh in on certain issues. They don't seem to do that in this forum for some reason. Thanks, Rob, for looking into it further. I agree - to me it's a bug. Walter

    sweep issue on ellipsoid

Rob, After installing SW10 SP 2.0 at home I opened your surface solution. I find the same oddity as in my solution - i.e., you can change the aspect ratio of the profile ellipse but you have to delete those dimensions or the sweep will fail. This is frustrating me to no end. Not looking for...

    sweep issue on ellipsoid

Thanks everyone for your inputs. I was finally able to achieve a fully dimensionally controlled ellipsoid using surfaces. I'll keep working on the solids approach. Rob, I wasn't able to play with your file as alas I am in the SW-08 dark ages! Thanks for the jpeg. Walter SW 2008

    sweep issue on ellipsoid

Jeff, Thanks for your reply. I tried to follow your instructions but still have issues: (1) When I change the dimensions of the profile ellipse the pierce constraints with the guide cuve don't hold; (2)I did place sketch4 (the guide curve) first but then when I did the sweep the order of...

    sweep issue on ellipsoid

With reference to the attached file the sweep fails as soon as I add dimensions to the initial ellipse sketch. Why is that? I was able to dimension the sweep path (the line) thus having some but not full control of the aspect ratio of the ellipsoid. How can I fully dimension this solid...

    INSERT PARTS IN ASSEMBLIES

This reminds me of politics. I recently announced my choice for VP and suddenly discovered a world of opposition! Sorry I digress….. A fact is this old dog loves to learn new tricks. I have tried the flyout toolbars with and without the “S” key “boost”. Please allow me to reiterate – If I’m only...

    INSERT PARTS IN ASSEMBLIES

CBL, Perhaps in the minority my codesigner and I simply prefer the old UI where all the icons you need are simply there without resorting to the "S" key or flyouts. IMO the loss in screen real estate is an insignificant sacrifice, especially if one is designing on the newer wide format, large...

    INSERT PARTS IN ASSEMBLIES

Must be your settings. I am able to drag parts (after the first) when inserted into an assembly. I have the "move components by dragging" option checked. We copied over our settings from SW2007 to get rid of flyout toolbars. finisher SW2008 SP4.0

    Library Feature for Dodge insert

Sorry for the late response - I've been real busy of late. Thanks, Jeff, for pointing me to the help files on this. While I did not succeed with the reusable hole wizard approach I did succeed with the library feature (see attached). After first doing the special hole as a revolve my codesign...

    variable pitch helix/configs

Thanks, Guys, for all your input. It turned out to be quite simple after all. I first created a second configuration so that I had one for the spring extended as well as the original for the spring relaxed. By default the pitch of course remained the same for the two config's. Then by just RMB...
