These are for a Vw watercooled engine, and from my understanding, they just slide right in and out.
I did a search on a VW forum I frequent and here is a post about them with both sides argueing whether anything needs to be done or not, but I figured I would ask for help over here...
Question...
I have purchased a factory new block from overseas to replace the old us spec block in my playcar. The new configuration will be with ITB's, large cams, header, headwork, etc..
My concern is that the engine will see substantially higher RPM than the orig factory intended. I was...
What about having one plumbed into the intake, attached to a bottle of compressed air carried in the car?
I understand of course that said bottle wouldn't hold enough air to operate for more than a very short while, but would that not be enough to run say um 1320 feet? :)
I have seen the setups where you hook a line to a mount on your header and crankcase to create a vacuum. I have also seen a electric vacuum pump made for a brake booster that says it creates a max of 20hg of vacuum.
Can/will this make a noticable hp increase when hooked to a crankcase or valve...
I've seen a high mount injector kit to put injectors in the stacks of my ITB's. Has anyone any thoughts on this?

Maybe its just me, but I see an awful lot of people build a engine with lets say 11-1 pistons, but also put in large cams without considering that the effective CR is actually lower now.
How do you calculate how much different cams will lower your CR so that you can raise the static CR up to...
After talking with a friend, we are toying with the idea of essentially spacing the injector housings to move the injector tips back out of the middle of the intake manifold/port where we are pressuming they are causing a considerable air-flow restriction at high RPM (up to 7500+)
Since this is...
I would think the replacing of the rivets with bolts/nuts would induce offset weights laterally which in turn would throw it out of wack...'specially at high RPM that I will be seeing (approaching 8k). This would only be worse if I doubled up on the straps.
Ok guys.... heres the problem. The stock pressure plate for my car (aprox $45) has the straps held on with rivets. These straps and rivets are known to break at high RPM.
There are a few companies that sell modified PP's with double stacked straps and bolts instead of rivets but they want...
Ok....here are some more details. Thanks for your help and time so far.
Here are a few pictures of what I am going to be working with.
First up is the shot of my new valves that I will be using that have slimmed shafts to help flow. The heads are .5mm oversized - intakes are SS w/ nitride...
Why shorten the exhaust guide, but not the intake?? If anything I would have thought the opposite, that it would be OK to shorten the intake, but leave the exhaust guide alone, since it will conduct heat from the valve...???
VW 16v DOHC 4 cyl.
It is strictly a play car...fast backroads, Fri night drag strip runs, etc.
Fuel is strictly 93-94 octane. Stock CR is 10 to 1. I would not mind going a little higher with it.
Pistons are stock cast.
Cams are Schrick 276.
I have already made a modded TB w/ larger...
Well guys... I am getting ready to build a new head for my play car. I will be installing larger valves, tapered valve guides, lighter lifters, Ti retainers, springs, cams and porting it myself.
Is there any ideas of something I could do to the combustion chamber while I am at it?
Here are...
Hey all,
I saw an article on autospeed about using turning vanes in a cylinderhead. Has anyone ever tried this? I could not find any further information online regarding this concept.
They talked about using 2 little simple curved vanes to help the air make the turn in the intake port, and...
Hey guys...
I have been involved in a few discussions on a different board about lightened valvetrain componets, and was wondering if any of you had anything to say about the concept, or knew any article, etc about it.
Just for kicks, here are some of the threads we have been talking in-...
