    Naming a partitioned cell

How do you make a set containing a cell? When I create a cell I can only select a surface.

    Naming a partitioned cell

I was wondering if there was a way to assign a cell a name much like what can be done with a surface. I’m trying to assign a body heat flux to a cell that I have partitioned and cannot physically see in CAE. If you cannot assign a cell a name is there away to deactivate cells on the outer...

    Thermal-Mechanical Equations

I have been looking through the documentation for the theory i.e. the general PDE's, used to solve coupled thermal-mechanical problems. Thus far I have had no luck in locating this information and have only found information on coupled thermal-electrical analysis. Does anyone know if these...

    Finding Radial Stress

How do you transpose the data to the new coordinate system? Thanks

    Finding Radial Stress

If I have a cylinder shaped part, is ther a way of making ABAQUS show circumferential and radial stresses? Do i have to introduce a cylindrical coordintate system before running the job? Thanks

    Meshing Issues using Tet elements

Here is another thread I started don't know if any of you would have experiance in this or not. http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=277382&page=1 Thanks

Convergence Issues with a contact constraint

I’m having trouble with my model not converging. It is a thermal-mechanical analysis with a contact condition in place between the two plate along with a heat flux. I know the convergence issue is tied to the contact constraint because it will run when it is suppressed. I have attached the .cae...

    Meshing Issues using Tet elements

Partitioning it along the X and Y plane helped a lot, I was able to use a structured Hex-mesh. I was wondering how you knew to use that approach? I have only been using Abaqus since the beginning of the year and my experience is a little limited. I would like to know for future models. I am...

    Meshing Issues using Tet elements

Rob, When you partitioned the model on the X and Y plane did you partition the cells in the models or the surfaces? I assume it’s the cells but just want to make sure. I know the seed size is a bit of an over kill but I'm trying to get mesh independence so I'm just taking it down to explore the...

    Meshing Issues using Tet elements

Ohh I was actually using 0.0005 not 0.005. That was my mistake in the post. The .cae file should be 0.0005 unless I messed that up as well. Could you maybe look at with the 0.0005 seed value? I'll also look into the Hex mesh. Thanks for the help.

    Meshing Issues using Tet elements

I have been having trouble getting two annular parts to mesh. I am trying to produce a mesh using tet- elements which will be used in a thermal-mechanical analysis. I can mesh the model when the seed size is large but when I lower it to around 0.005 the model will not mesh and I get an error...

    Interaction Contact Convergence Issues

What initial increment size did you use; I tried a few different ones and could never get it to converge. Also how many iterations did it take to converge? I am using a 3D model and non-symmetry because this model will be used for a show and tell for the higher ups and they tend to like pretty...

    Interaction Contact Convergence Issues

I have attached a .cae with the model I have been trying to run. It is a fully coupled thermal mechanical analysis of two aluminum plates that are weld about their edges. There is a uniform temperature gradient across the thickness of both plates. The central area of the plates has an...

    Contact Convergence Issue

I have been having trouble with a thermal-stress model that will not converge. I believe my problem is somewhere in the contact interaction I have applied to the model called “internal contact.” The model will converge with a low density mesh with the contact interaction on but it will not...

Convergance Issues in Thermal Stress Analysis

I am having some trouble getting my fully coupled thermal stress model to converge with higher density meshes. I have lowered the increment size in the past to get it converge but now I get this error related to heat flux. There is zero HEAT FLUX everywhere in the model based on the default...

    Simulating a Weld

I have two aluminum plates that are the same dimensions which are laid directly on top of each other. I am trying to figure out a way to simulate a weld around the edges of the plates. I need to take the nodes located on the edges that are in connect between the plates and tie them together. I...

    Parallelization in Parametric Studies

I am running a parametric study and I'm trying to figure out how I can run parallelization. Currently the study is only running on one processor core and it would be nice to run on multiple ones. I don't know if it should go in the .inp file or the .psf file. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    Parametric Study Scripting

I'm am trying to run the example: Parametric study of a linear elastic pipeline under in-plane bending which is 1.1.3 in the abaqus example problems manual in the 6.9 documentation. The procedure I am using to run the file is as follows. I put all the .inp files and the .psf file in the same...
