    Impact Testing

Well the scenario is this: A customer we are dealing with has very strict constraints on which welding practices we can use to fabricate their orders, basically we are restricted to using only GTAW. In addition, a few of the items on their order are for low-temp applications and they require we...

    Impact Testing

Sorry I left that out, ASME IX is what I'm using.

    Impact Testing

Further to my questions above, can you even use the results from two different samples in one single PQR, even if you have it recertified. For example, Sample#1 was welded using WPS-X and was sent out for for tensile and bend tests, and Sample#2, also welded using WPS-X, but welded on a...

    Impact Testing

I have a weld procedure that was qualified and approved a few years ago WITHOUT impact testing. Since then we have welded a second test coupon (using the same procedure) and have had it tested again (tensile, bend tests) but this time WITH impact tests. Now my question is: What are the...

    CFDesign

Does anyone here have any experience using CFDesign to model fluid flows through piping? More specifically, using CFDesign's 'resistance' material to simulate flow through perforated plate/wire mesh?

    QW-466.1

I have some performance qualification test pieces which have come back as 'failed'. The welders are claiming that it is not their welding technique which caused them to fail, but rather the bend radius of the test pieces was too small. I am using SA-516 Grade 70 material with a thickness of...

    Hard Wire Welding

Is "Hard Wire Welding" simply another term for GMAW or MIG welding or am I missing something? As a follow-up, correct or not, is the definition of "Hard Wire Welding" found in AMSE anywhere? Or any other code or technical document for reference?

    Lap Welds

My question is this: At what point, if ever, does a lap weld become a fillet weld? It is my understanding that a 'lap' is a type of JOINT, not a type of WELD. A 'fillet' is a WELD, not a JOINT. A fillet WELD is used to join either a tee or lap JOINT. It would also follow that the term "lap...

    ASME IX QW-403.5

Thank you for the timely responses. What i have gathered from your posts is that since impact testing was not required, Group No. becomes a non-essential variable and can therefore be changed without the need for requalification. So it would follow that my WPS isn't necessarily 'wrong' for...

    ASME IX QW-403.5

I have a PQR with base metal P1Gr2 to P1Gr2 without impact testing (specifically, SA-516 GR.70 welded to itself). The corresponding WPS is for base metals P1Gr1,2&3 to P1Gr1,2&3. I believe the additions of groups 1 and 3 on the WPS are a result of QW-403.5 Is this corrrect? Please Advise...
