    self locking fastener

any suggestions for a clamp that would lock automatically a removable enclosure to a machine frame when the operator pushes the enclosure in place, as opposed to them having to intentionally drop the fasteners in place after the enclosure is pushed into position (as is done now). I'm...

Build-up and corrosion in industrial water piping

We've had ongoing issues with hot and cold water pipe corrosion and precipitation/build-up at our plant and we'd like to hire a 3rd party consultant, an expert in water quality as it impacts industrial piping, to investigate and make a recommendation to address these issues. We will likely...

    Ultrasonics Cleaners

Any experience out there with magnetostrictive vs piezoelectric ultrasonics cleaners? Any heads up on installation considerations?

    Insulation spec for steam/condensate piping

Also, on blankets for large valves and flanges, I was planning on using silicone cloth, threaded with teflon thread (not sure what thickness to spec) and tempmat insulation, which I understand is rated for 1000-1200F. Our steam shouldn't get over 350F

    Insulation spec for steam/condensate piping

I'm finishing up a scope for some insulation contractor proposals and I was wondering what is standard for insulation thickness and type. We're insulating piping for steam, boiler blow down water, and condensate with diameters ranging from 3/4" to 6". I was planning on spec'ing fiberglass, 3...

Piping specs for compressed air and water

Does it make sense that I chose 5 ft/sec as a maximum compressed air velocity (that's how I came up with the 1" ID).

Piping specs for compressed air and water

I just got feedback from a technical person from the air compressor supplier that it would probably be better to use black iron piping than PVC.

Piping specs for compressed air and water

My project involves providing my maintenance person specs to run piping from a 3hp air compressor and dryer to a propietary machine and from a water softener to a vacuum pump (for cooling water) to that same propietary machine. The air compressor can provide up to 10 cfm at max pressure (see...

    Insulate the DA Tank?

To answer rmw, the DA tank is rated for 50 psi.

    Insulate the DA Tank?

How common is it for DA tanks to be insulated and do you recommended we do so and why? I'm working with our boiler vendor and installer on the final punchlist for a new 200 hp Miura Boiler and one item I had suggested they needed to do was to insulate the DA tank. They've agreed to insulate...

    Flanges ok for Sulphuric acid?

moltenmetal, You're right. Sorry for my laziness. I'm back in engineering after an 8 year stint running a business. I appreciate very much everyone's help on this issue.

    Flanges ok for Sulphuric acid?

We're blending 50 gallons of 98.7% sulfuric acid with 200 gallons of water. How do I calculate the heat of dilution?

    Flanges ok for Sulphuric acid?

We're going to use Alloy 20. Any suggesitions for if it should be Schedule 40 or something else?

    Flanges ok for Sulphuric acid?

What do you mean by dHmix?

    Flanges ok for Sulphuric acid?

Another question. When we're diluting 100% sulfuric acid to 20%, we should be adding acid to water, not the other way around, correct?

    Flanges ok for Sulphuric acid?

moltenmetal, Are you saying don't use Alloy 20 because it's too expensive? I don't understand your comment. Can you recommend a good vendor resource that can give me a non-metalic recommendation, which you seem to be suggesting would be preferable to Alloy 20. I need guidance on how to...

    Flanges ok for Sulphuric acid?

We just found the pex supplier won't warranty the pipe for use with this material, so we're probably back to Alloy 20.

    Flanges ok for Sulphuric acid?

We're considering using pex which is a plastic and very inexpensive. The problem is getting a flange connection and getting a pressure transmitter in the line.

    Flanges ok for Sulphuric acid?

We do research and pilot plant testing for various clients and the ingredient makeup is given to us by our client. I don't if it would be possible for them to get the same result with a higher % acid being added. I've got an engineer from one of the supply companies researching the correct...
