CBL, this is interesting. Are you saying that if I open and edit a part that is part of an assembly I also have open, and then I close the part without saving my edits, that SolidWorks will save anyway because the part is dynamically linked to other parts?

Yes my documents are in the vault and they are secured, but this also happens while in the middle of designing a new component that has not been checked in yet. If I cose the file without saving why does it save?

Is there a setting that forces Solidworks to save even if I close the part without saving, if so I need to turn it off?
Here is my dilema, I open a complex part that has many configurations and I experiment with supressing and unsupressing features and generaly just poking around the...
I have recently upgraded to XP64 SP2, using SolidWorks Premium x64 SP3.0 with a Nvidia Quadro FX 5600
My problem is with my mx620 cordless laser mouse using Set Point 4.72.40 drivers. I am experiencing significant mouse lag when I rotate a model using my mouse middle button. The model does not...
I have my default set to light weight. Msaybe I should change my default.

1) When opening a small Assembly with 2 parts they load light weight as they should, I RMB on either part in the history tree and the "set to resolved" option is there as it should be. So far so good!
2) Now I open up the drawing that contains the 2 parts plus the assembly, then I go back to the...
I just upgraded my operating system to XP64. Befor I reinstall Vanilla Autocad including an old ver 2002 and the new 2010 (we don't use Inventor) will there be any issues that I should be aware of. Will they both install OK?
Thanks

FYI everybody, I uninstalled SW, cleaned out all remnants of SW files folders and temp stuff including my registry. Reinstalled SP2.1 fresh
System is much better. the icons generate quick as they should, and all seems ok. I'll have to see if it still crashes and freeze up like it did.
Thanks all...
Yes, Nvidia Quadra FX 5600 with the latest drivers
OK so if quad cores are not beneficial they should still perform at a relatively fast pace. I don't think the quad processors are to blame for my icons in "detail view" generating at a very slow pace when I browse for files with SW File/Open...
No, windows search is disabled. Task manager shows 12 to 17% processor usage and all eight processor windows are active. Shows 2gb ram still available. All indications is everything is normal. But SW is so slow just to generate the icons when browsing files. I also noticed when SW is running...
I am experiencing very slow performance with my Dell T5400 with Dual Xeon Quad Core processors, 4gb ram. I don't think it's solid works specifically because some of my other applications just seem slow, even when I do File Open in SW the icons associated to file names in Detail view are so slow...
Thanks everybody for your input, but I have to agree so far with Joe Marv. I tried getting rid of the .1 but still no go. I spoke with PTC and they said I need to but a seat (of course). I also spoke with a ProE user and he said we need to get a seat of ProE for this too.
I'm not looking for a...
I downloaded the Proe version and it did not work either. which I need to uninstall now.

Yes, edrawing does not work for the drw.1 files, it reports incompatible file type. ProE has another viewer but the files must be saved in that viewers format

I have a customer that semds me ProE files. I have no problem opening their assemblies and part files, but I cannot open their drw.1 drawing files. In most cases I cannot get PDF or DXF files from them. Is there a viewer or other method that will open the drw.1 files directly? I just need to...
OK, I just read the PDM rules to live by, and it answered my questions. Thanks everybody

One more thing,
In the vault admin should either of these be checked or un checked to go along with JMirisola's post above?
1) Set file System read only attribute if not owner
2) Bind ownership to Solidworks read-write / read-only access
Thanks,
Tom
