    Testing for silicone.

Could somebody point me to a lab that could test for silicone contamination in CNC machine coolant? Thank you Mike

    NPT thread information

Yes, I have an edition of the "bible", but I could not find any kind of mechanical explainations on the how's & why's a correct thread will perform when assembled into a mating part. I am more interested in any sort of troubleshooting that could be found with engagement. Mike

    NPT thread information

Can anybody tell me, point me to a website, or publication that explains the mechanics of how a NPT thread is supposed to work, and possibly have some troubleshooting? I am familiar with ANSI B1.20.1, but need something that would explain the engagement that is supposed to occur. In a perfect...

    Roundness of NPT threads???

We seem to be having an issue with the roundness of a run of the mill 2" NPT plug. Is there anything specifically called out for in the standard that controls this? Thanks for the help. Mike

Weld bead callout on a print

I have inspected both the pipe and the fittings prior to welding, and the pipe is .4888" and that is going into a fitting with a diameter of .491+.003/-0". I do not believe that with this gap there would not be a cause for concern. The vendor that is welding these parts has done so for may...

Weld bead callout on a print

Ok guys, I just did some looking on line and found out the the type of weld that is called out for on the print is a bevel weld(noted by the bevel symbol on the reference line). Pardon my ignorance to different weld specifications, I did not know this all existed. BillPSU, would it be...

Weld bead callout on a print

Would you know of a standard that would spell this out for me? Thanks Mike

Weld bead callout on a print

HgTX, understand that the weld is to be a fillet, but instead of being concaved the weld is convexed(not sure if that matters or not), but I still have a problem with measuring the weld because of not knowing where the limits of the pre-welded parts were. In other words I do not think that I am...

Weld bead callout on a print

It is a fillet weld I believe. We have a thin wall pipe welded into a threaded fitting, and the callout is where the pipe is pressed into the fitting and then welded. Mike

Weld bead callout on a print

If I have a .06" callout for a weld on a print, how would that be measured? I have an idea, but....... Thanks for the help. Mike

    Specifying/Inspecting conical surface

An issue that comes to mind with the profile of a line or surface would be the specialized equipment that you would need to accomplish what you had asked. From my research on surface finish, I found that on Rq(RMS) IS sensitive to peaks and valleys on a surface and the reading accounts for the...

    Specifying/Inspecting conical surface

Have you thought about changing you measurement parameter? Since this is a critical surface you may want to look at Rq(RMS) and possibly even ask for a print change that would ask for a tighter tolerance, or a note that would specifically ask that no nicks, sctraches, or ..... be permitted in...

    NPT Gaging question.

Is there anybody that deals with castings and can answer me a question on the proper use of a NPT ring gage on a pipe plug? I know that when gaging pipe, flush would be the end of the pipe(according to B1.20.1), but would the same hold true for a plug? The cast plug does in fact have a cast in...

    Surface Finish question

Ok, what I'm looking for is the industry standard on the "correct" method of calling out surface finish. Is there a difinitive answer to this in B46.1 - 2002? In the 1995 version, most if not all the examples are for the use of the parameter "Ra" . I understand that in 1995 ISO had deemed...

    Surface Finish question

Would anybody be able to tell me what the prescribed parameter of measurement of surface finish is to be used? I know that it used to be RMS, but was changed to Ra in 1995, is this still the method in use today for evaluating your standard metal machining finishes? Thanks for the help Mike
