    Glycol vs. Water

Newbie question: When designing a system, how do you know when to select glycol over water or vise versa? What comes to my mind is cost, freeze protection. How does selecting glycol over water affect your system (your piping, pumps, etc)? Thanks for the feedback.

Monitoring the run status of a boiler

Looking at a primary heating system: A control statement, monitoring the run status of the boiler , will enable the lead hot water circulation pump. My question is, what physical instrument on location monitors the run status of the boiler? A pressure sensor maybe or a contact on the boiler...

Expansion tank on glycol chiller system

Hi, I know that an expansion tank is added downstream of boilers on the hot water supply line because of thermal expansion. Why is an expansion tank added to the cold glycol supply line downstream of a chiller? Thanks for your time.

Unit Heater vs. Cabinet Unit Heater

Hi, thanks for your comments. What determines when to select a unit heater over a cabinet unit heater? Is it location, I've seen cabinet unit heaters situated at entrances of buildings and unit heaters in mechanical rooms, etc. Why is this and what other parameters should I consider when...

Boiler startup test and ensuring peak efficiency

If what you are asking is if I'm doing a startup, no. I'm interested in boilers, and I came across some reading and that got me interested. I apologize, the above sentence should say the following: the specs call for adjusting boiler "BURNER" to ensure peak efficiency, how is this done? Thanks.

Boiler startup test and ensuring peak efficiency

Hi, During a boiler startup, (hot water heating boiler, condenser boiler) the specs call for adjusting boiler to ensure peak efficiency, how is this done? Tests are performed at 100% load, 75% load, 50% load, and 25% load, what kind of tests are usually performed? Thanks for all replies...
