    Brake Lights versus Turn Signal

I definately agree with itsmoked that the turn signal switch must break the circuit to the brake lite and then send power to one element thru the flasher (keep in mind that there was only one flasher on the cars we're talking about). It always marveled me how one switch could make a circuit and...

    Powerware UPS

I've been trying to get contact with ESOXmaniac, maybe if I list thread 248-204019 he will be notified. Still working on the Powerware 1000, learning a lot, still need schematic. Hope I don't get flamed for asking.

    centrifugal pump booster

I want to thank everyone for their input, it's been very helpful. This is just a theoretical exercise, something I enjoy. Adding to this Rube Goldberg device, I've been made aware the startup amps of a house pump is the real consumer of electricity. What if the pressure tank were capable of...

    Steam Explosion and TNT equivalance

I studied steam for a while, made some models, read some books. The qreatest fear in steam is a boiler explosion. That happens when all the water is gone, and the boiler overheats and blows. More pressure is created than the safety valves can release before the boiler ruptures violently. It was a...

    Explosions in space.

I read a lot of sci-fi when I was young, and it has been inspiration for inventions, mine and others I'm sure. An author needs credibility in his stories if he's going to keep the readers coming back and buying more books. I've asked this question because I really want input on how the vacuum of...

    Explosions in space.

Some may consider this a stupid question, but I want to know. When I watch Science Fiction shows about asteriods threatening the Earth, they sometimes show missiles with nuclear weapons breaking up the asteriod. My question is, does an explosion really do any damage in the vacuum of space...

    Steam Explosion and TNT equivalance

I agree with btrueblood, that it is a poor comparison. Steam has push; detonations happen very quickly, and then they're gone. Great for shattering concrete. Steam would push the concrete away, it would try to push all the walls down. Detonation would just shatter everything. That is what I see...

Pump outlet at same level as inlet, piping at elevated level

Your pump has to move ash slurry (what's it's viscosity? is it like oil or like sludge?). It looks like you need a sewage lift pump to me. Make sure you design a good way to pull and service it. Consider double pumps with an alternating system, it all comes in a nice package. Just don't use the...

    Upward thrust on vertical pump

It takes a lot of force to lift a 1500 hp motor. Are all the turbines lifting on the pump, or are they balanced for no axial thrust? Maybe a sudden water hammer affected the pump. Possibly an expansion happened, and up was the only way to go.

    TOWVEYOR CART DESIGN

You'll have to differentiate between impact and the normally expected load from starting and stopping. I'm expecting a spring loaded ball system might be somewhere to start. Load on the spring could be adjustable.

    Hydrostatic pump vibration

If your motor is vibrating too much, you may have to remote mount the pump, drive it with a shaft with u-joints or flexible couplings. That's a pain. Is the pump connected to the flywheel with a solid or flexible joint? I used to mount marine clutches on auto flywheel housings. Getting it...

    New Product Ideas

Good Luck. There's lots of nice folks on this site with great minds. I'm sure some are inventors who would appreciate a site just for innovations and free discussion. I think I'll move my pump project there.

    Powerware UPS

Thanks, Macguyvers2000, you're right. Thanks, also, Felixc, your answers are very helpful, just what I need. I've just been hoping to get lucky and find an inside track to info that is undoubtedly reserved for Powerware techs.

    centrifugal pump booster

Well said, Compositepro. I guess the shallow well adapter does steal some efficiency from the pump, but it does improve the performance of the pump. What I am discussing is improving the upper end of the pump's performance with an add-on that uses flow from the pump to pump higher pressure. That...

    Powerware UPS

Felixc-Thanks for the reply, it made a lot of sense. I have just been accustomed to getting books and manuals for anything I needed to fix. I'm seeing that there are not so subtle differences between appliances, vehicles, pumps, etc, and sophisticated electronic devices. As you say, a cap change...

    Abs / polycarbonate sheet brands

I've been looking at a lot of plastic companies, and found Steve Towers at this company to be very helpful. http://www.professionalplastics.com/

    Design problem

From my experience as a fabricator, I found pipe to often have a straight seam which can fail; whereas tubing is usually made better, and of better stuff, and to closer tolerances. It just seems to me that tubing is better than pipe.

    Powerware UPS

Ray, thanks for the info. The smoking wire was quite small, one of my gators from the temp ampmeter to the fuse. I know I can get UPS units, I want to learn how to fix them. Eventually I want to move to the country, and be able to make my own juice if I need to. Right now here in St. Thomas the...

    centrifugal pump booster

Artisi- I'm talking about centrifugal pumps 1/2 to 2 hp, that have a pressure tank. From my experience waiting for one to cycle off so I can check the pressure switch setting, it seems that as these pumps enter the edge of their curve, efficiency drops off. I'm proposing an energy saving device...

    Powerware UPS

Thanks, IRstuff for the patent page. I'll probably have to use PatentStorm to view images. I read the faq thing. I didn't go to VPI to get my degree, even though I had a scholarship. Went directly into the trades instead. I've learned just about all of them in the manufacturing and maintenance...
