    Stacked jackup rigs in GoM

Hi All, I read that there are many companies cold stacking jackup rigs in the GoM. I am assuming that these rigs are in the shallow water areas of the gulf. Where are the safe designated areas, main concern being exposure to hurricanes? What are the steps taken to protect the rigs? Thanks.

    Offshore pipe-in-pipe installation

Hi, I am looking at the risk assessment of pipe-in-pipe lay methodology and practically new to this concept. Would appreciate your feedback. 1) What are the challenges in Pipe-in-pipe lay as opposed to the single pipelay? 2) How is wet buckling detected in the inner pipe? 3) Based on limited...

    Speed of pipelay per day

Grateful for your responses. In this case I am looking at the Castorone with the capability for either J or S at depths of <300m, who will be laying 42" S-lay. This vessel is certainly capable of many things. I was informed of multiple dents due to lay issues and whilst I do not know the...

    Speed of pipelay per day

Hi, I've received information on a pipelay vessel estimated to lay 3.5km 42" pipe per day on DP. In the Nordstream project, I believe the vessel lay speed could go up to 4km. Someone commented that a rate of 4km per day is too fast. Is there a higher likelihood of wet buckle the faster the...

What qualifies an FPSO to be the largest?

I've read that FPSO designs are based on the storage, production & export capacities, site environment and crew complement. With reference to the Mustang worldwide survey of FPSO units, I've noticed that though an FPSO may be large in terms of hull dry weight and size (length, width & height)...

    Flowlines vs Pipelines

Thanks for your responses. As a rule of thumb, what sort of D/t would we be looking at for depths >100m? Say for depths 120-140m. Because I am no longer in engineering, I do not have design standards for reference. :(

    Platform Substructure

For the reason you've listed in your earlier message (1) - (3)? Steve, can't quite picture it. Any key words to search the web? Thanks.

    Platform Substructure

I've assumed that if it was to be gravity based, then concrete would make sense because of corrosion issues. Does iron ore solve the corrosion issues? I am referring to the steel constructed gravity substructure for the Wheatstone development.

    Platform Substructure

Why would a gravity based substructure of a processing platform be steel constructed instead of concrete constructed?

    Flowlines vs Pipelines

Thanks, guys. I used to be involved in offshore structure design, not pipelines, as Steve has pointed out. Am now involved in risk management and that gives me a broader picture, though it makes me feel uncomfortable at times. I am looking at loss numbers from offshore pipe installation claims...

    Flowlines vs Pipelines

Perhaps a basic question. Am looking at the planned installation of 3" to 10" flowlines in 130-160m depth of water. Is the D/t ratio dependent on whether it is an S-Lay or J-Lay? I've read that a J-lay is generally for deepwater installation, however is it relative to pipe diameter as well...

    Flowlines vs Pipelines

Hi, I need to evaluate the risks of offshore damage/losses from flowline installation, at depths say 80m (Carnarvon Basin), compared to pipeline installation. How are they different in terms of installation, material, behaviour etc? Does flowlines face lesser risk of dry/wet buckling...
