Thanks metengr. Fact is that carbon content is well below the prescribed limit as are contents of all the other alloy elements with the exception of Vanadium which is above the maximum of 0.02% and this brings CE to 0.42.
Besides supplier gives us the flange but we will perform all welding...
If you mean 18CrNi8 according to DIN 17210 (now superseded by EN 10084) which is a structural steel containing 0.17% of carbon, 0,25% of Si, 0.5% of Mn plus about 2% of both Cr and Ni I was not able to find an USA equivalent, only a French one (18CN8) and others non standardized codes (Spain...
Our supplier is proposing a carbon steel F52 forged flange with a CEV of 0.42, while our client specification is asking for 0.39 saying that the line is sour service. In my personal opinion once we adopt a welding procedure capable to maintain hardness below 22HRc (248 HV10) the request for 0.39...
One of our suppliers states in his P&P procedure that duplex steel pipes can be treated for a time "up to 24 hours". Solution used is 10%-16% nitric acid + 5%-8% hydrofluoric acid in water at ambient temperature (10-25 °C)
Isn't it a very long dwell time? Is there any risk of damaging the pipe...
Hi everybody. Is there anybody who has infos regarding possible problems of compatibility between AISI316L and THPS (Tetrakis (hydroxymethyl)phosphonium sulfate) biocide agent at commercial concentrations (that is before being injected into the water injection line)?
Thanks in advance
Hi everybody. Is there anybody who has infos regarding possible problems of compatibility between AISI316L and THPS (Tetrakis (hydroxymethyl)phosphonium sulfate) biocide agent at commercial concentrations (that is before being injected into the water circuit)?
Thanks in advance
In my opinion 304 and 304L have the same pitting behaviour, the L version has only better weldability properties due to its lower carbon content.

Massimo
Hi everybody, is there anybody who has experience about possible damage cause by amine based chemicals (corrosion inhibitors) in contact with rubber coatings (we are talking about 0,01% to 1% concentration of the chemical in water)?
Thanks for the help and best regards
Massimo
I've been asked to verify if a carbon steel pipe filled with a mixture of ethylen glycol and distilled water (ratio 1,5/1)at ambient temperature and with no flow can corrode: filling was done in may this year and expected un-filling shall be in next December. In my opinion answer is no since...
I have a table (unfortunately only on paper, I can't find the electronic format) where it is clearly shown that 316L has corrosion rates in quiet seawater up to 5 mils/y (0,125 mm/y) depending on other factors like temp, type of seawater, steel surface conditions and so on. My recent experience...
Thanks mthakur! Actually most PHE people I spoke with talked about 900 days of delivery!! If I'd like to get rid of my project manager I'd simply had to tell him that he cannot have his PHEs untill Christmas of 2008. Seriously now, it seems that the only possible solution is 254 SMO, I only have...
My purchase dept. says it's experiencing rising difficulties in finding plates heat exchangers with Titanium plates due to reduced availability on the market of this metal. Therefore they've asked me to find a possible alternative. I've suggested Hastelloy that now is becoumng increasingly...
Thanks Steve. Supplier is proposing such solution to protect 316L against SCC at temperatures higher than 50 °C.
My doubts regard the inherent porosity of thermal spray coatings and therefore the contact between substrate material and aggressive environment.
Hello everybody. Is there anybody who has any knowledge about the use of thermally sprayed alluminium coated AISI316L against bare 22 Cr duplex steel within an environment containing hydrocarbon and water?
thanks a lot
Max
No, the surface is not smooth but kind of corrugated (like a rough sea seen from above). I'm sure it's carbon steel because I've seen the manufacturing data
Sorry Goahead, I didn't explained well the look of the surface: it is absolutely free of rust, unoxidated. So the surface has no layer to be scratched but you can see only bright metal.
Hope this help
Best regards
Dear All, we've received for analysis a CS forged spool (about 16" diameter) used to connect a butterfly valve to an heat exchanger. The H.E. is used to cool process water using seawater as cooling medium: into the forged pipe flows seawater that goes into the H.E.
The internal surface of the...
Dear All, is there anybody who knows if the usual pipeline coating (3LPP coating) can be damaged if exposed to active acid sulphate soils? and if so which are the common adopted measures to avoid the risk that is to mitigate the acidity?
thanks
Massimo
