I am compressing a hyperelastic material in a 2D plane strain quasi-static model. When I view my strain results, my maximum principal logarithmic strain equals the negative of my minimum principal logarithmic strain. Not sure why this occurred since Poisson's ratio is assumed .5 not 1. Any...

Thank you guys. You can specify COORD in the field output in the step module. Then once the outputdatabase is created print report of results. The original coords can be determined by subtracting displacements from the COORDs.
Hello,
Is there a way to display xy coordinates of undeformed mesh and the output variable for the entire part/mesh instead of selecting each node individually and writing to file using Tools->query. Thanks
Richard
Hello, does anyone have an updated environment file I can take a look at that works for abaqus version 6.8.
We ugraded from v6.7 and I get the following error when I try to run a program with my existing env file. Attached is my old env file. Any idea what I am missing?
I get the error when i...
I am compressing a hyperelastic material in ABAQUS Standard. When I am visualizing my results I get a large negative logarithmic strain (< -1). How is it possible to have a strain smaller than -1 in compression (LE22)? Thanks
Richard
Yo rstupplebeen,
What kind of loads and part shapes were you using to load your material? Also what stresses and strains did you obtain when running your low modulus materials (<100 MPa)? Also, what do you mean when you say dial down the step size? Why wouldn't displacement control be the same...
Hello dw21,
Thank you for your response. I will try the penalty contact method. I was using surface-surface frictionless contact before and my material model is purely elastic.
I am also looking into adaptive meshing. In order to remesh, how would I import my deformed part for remeshing using...
Thanks Rob for the response. I have attached my undeformed mesh. I am using CPE8RH elements. http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=8edfecd2-f9a6-4c4f-a9de-1fddf7d8407c&file=undeformed_mesh.jpg
Hello,
I am trying to run a 2D static contact analysis between a cylindrical rigid material and a flat low modulus linear elastic material (20 MPa) subjected to a fairly large force (2000 N). I have solved the excessive distorted element problems but am now having trouble with solution...
It seems when you load input files with MPCs into ABAQUS, the MPC command is not yet supported by version 6.7. I am assuming the command is still passed on to the Analysis algorithms even though it does not show up in the submitted input file. The command seems to be functional when you try...
Thanks Corus,
So I added my MPC to the input file and saved it as a new name. Then imported the model in ABAQUS. It gives me a warning message:
WARNING: The following keywords/parameters are not yet supported by the input file reader...
heres my input file I changed manually. So I should load the input file then re-define the parts and surfaces before I run the problem?http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=c30ef481-2d61-41a8-9bcc-92ab43e6c94c&file=elasticimpactimpactor2.inp
What if you have negative eigenvalues in a static contact analysis problem? I get this as one of the few warnings in my impact model and the problem does not finish because of too many increment attempts. Would this be a major problem for the solver finding a solution? Is there no way of getting...
I tried modifying the input file, but it seems that whenever I modify the input file (same goes for keywords editor), the defined parts and surfaces are empty. However, without my additions, it runs fine. Is there something I am missing as far as making corrections to input files? I included the...
Thanks bassmanjax. So would I have to go into keywords, define the nodes that were automatically generated from the meshing feature that I want constrain before the *end part line, then define the quadratic MPCs? The users manual describes how the MPCs should be written, but if the ABAQUS CAE...
I am trying to use the Quadratic multipoint contraint in order to reduce the amount of elements in my model. So I am trying to go from a fine to a course mesh, but I am unsure of where to add this MPC constraint within the keyword editor. In the ABAQUS/Standard tutorial, for the cargo crane...
