I am analyzing a slope in GeoStudio in Finite element method. Strength Reduction method. When I analyze with Limit Equilibrium method, I get FoS 0.7.
According to SRM method, the material strength should be reduced until we get non-convergence or huge deformation. In this case, how can I...
Hi,
Sorry if the question feels too naive to ask. I have a soil report for an embankment. Now I want to analysis it for stability. My question is at which material properties I can assume a new layer as bedrock?
Is it dependent on strength parameters or stiffness parameters?
Hi,
I have a model where I replaced the bedrock layer with a "Mohr-coulomb" soil (Unit weight 21, Phi 35). Now the FoS has increased. Can somebody explain this? Does this mean bedrock's strength parameters are lesser than the soil stated above?
Sorry for a very basic question.
Thanks in advance.
I have few data of unit weight, Angle of internal friction and some grain size distribution.
Is there any empirical relation to find out the Young's Modulus of Elasticity of that soil?
Thank you in advance.
Hi BigHarvey,
I don't think lateral stress, alone, can change the vertical settlement. If you put lateral stress, it will densify the soil and certainly rise the pore water pressure up. I have modeled it with a finite element soft. Showed no change in settlement.
Hi,
Can anyone give me resource link how hydraulic conductivity (not permeability) affects the settlement? From the instant settlement to creep stage.
Thank you in advance.

Thanks BigH.
I actually found the answer by analyzing this paper: Handy, Richard L. "Does lateral stress really influence settlement?." Journal of geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering 127.7 (2001): 623-626.
But the funny thing this conception is probably wrong here. Without...
Hi,
Can someone suggest me to some 'specific' literature where the effects of lateral stresses on vertical settlement have been discussed?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I like to model a peat soil where I am expecting to implement a transient change in temperature. Which software should work best? I am particularly concerned about the huge moisture content which cannot be put into GeoStudio.
Thank you in advance.
