    Renaming Output Sets

Hi all, Does anyone know how to automatically rename output sets to match load cases. The default name is: 1..Simcenter NASTRAN Case 1. I have to rename them manually every time and sometimes I have a large number of load cases. If you know how to do this, please share, it would save me so...

    Contour View vs Criteria View

Hi all, I'm looking at VM stress results on plate elements (2D) and I get different stress from criteria view vs contour view. I tried extracting results per element, avg on element, max on element, and still getting same result as Criteria View. Where does the Countour View numbers come from...

    No Results

It's FEMAP V 10.0.1 and it was installed by the IT department of my client. The f06 file is empty. The log file is showing this: ------------------------------------------------------------------- NX Nastran started Mon Nov 30 10:14:07 E 2015 10:14:07 Beginning Analysis All SSE XMM...

    No Results

Hi all, I'm running FEMAP on a new machine and when I run my model it doesn't generate any results, the f06 file is empty but it seems to run. I saw this in the log file: 15:46:53 NSINIT: *** NSINIT ERROR 70 *** UNABLE TO OPEN UNIT 8 What does it mean? What could it be? Thank you, W

Reading Shear Loads on BAR elements

yeah I think we're saying the same thing. In the case of a cylinder shaped fastener, your square would be the cross section of the cylinder if you cut it along the axis, that would be your square/plane that becomes a rhombus when deforming under shear. si? I'm using BAR elements because the...

Reading Shear Loads on BAR elements

ok, let me see if I get it right this time.... shear is caused by a couple (isnt that ironic?) hence, the plane defined by FEMAP (1 or 2), is the plane where that couple is acting. Is that it?

Reading Shear Loads on BAR elements

ok so if I understand correctly the shear force in plane 1 means the force direction is perpendicular to plane 1? That's what I understood from your explanations and it would make sense as to why there is no such thing as shear in plane 3. Hence, total shear would be SQRT( shear-plane1^2 +...

Reading Shear Loads on BAR elements

This is confusing, let me try to clarify. Let's assume the cross-section of the bar is a circle, hence the whole thing is a cylinder. Axis 1 runs through the cylinder's axis. 2 and 3 are perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder. Since this is a fastener, I'm interested in reading tension and...

Reading Shear Loads on BAR elements

Hi, I'm analyzing some fasteners modeled as bar elements, therefore I need to determine the tension and shear on the fastener. FEMAP has output vectors shear forces (in both plane1 & plane2), this is confusing to me. Is this in both directions perpendicular to the bar? I mean there is only...

what are the units for rotational stiffness in FEMAP? specifically the angle units, rad or deg? thanks, W

    Grounded Model, what to do?

I'm using DOF springs in my model and I know these elements can generate weird loads in model due to grounding if elements are not aligned with node output CSys. I have such a model right now and I'm trying to figure out an efficient way to find the source of this problem other than visually...

    Naming your Results Set

@VonFea: How "slow" do you click? hehehee why the quotes hahaha I like that, I'm gonna click real "slow". Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know that someone finally answered this question for me and I want to share it with you. To automatically name your result set with the same name as...

    Need (mid-life) Career Advice

@Jboggs I call them the devil in part because I believe that a considerable share of our customers are world class criminals. Nothing wrong with capitalist money-making businesses as long as you don't make profit by harming others. Is that too idealistic?

    Need (mid-life) Career Advice

Thank you all for your input. One of the main problems I find in my job is that the incentive is backwards. I am a highly efficient employee. I get paid by the hour. I also get paid 1.5 OT. I am encouraged (almost forced) to work OT, which leaves me little time to spend on my hobbies but...

    Need (mid-life) Career Advice

I'm 33 y/o, making good money analyzing private jets interiors structures, bored to death and I feel like I'm working for the devil. I want to do something new where I can find intellectual challenge, be creative and inline with my core values (humanity & the environment). My main problem is...

    Meshing

In some parts of my mesh quads are split into tri for some reason. I deleted the tris and created the quads manually but I'd like to know if there is a way to set up the mesher in order to avoid this from happening.
