Do a search for AR-MMPDS. That is the standard aircraft materials database. You have to pay for the current version, but old versions should be out there for free - it used to be free when it was managed by the FAA. It has a lot of stress strain curves for a variety of metals.
Thanks all.
Material is 2XXX AL extrusions.
Relatively thick sections, so the cutoff is affecting the final section result substantially.
The load is an ultimate load case, so plastic effects are allowed.
I hadn't checked Niu, as I didn't remember anything about higher cutoffs in it...
In all of the crippling calculations I've done over the years, I've always used Fcy as the cutoff stress. I'm trying to get a little more out of something, and noticed that in McCombs' Bruhn Supplement, at the end of Art. C7.30, he mentions people have used 3 different cutoffs: (1) Fcy, (2)...
Thanks mrfemap - that is what I am discovering. Have you had luck turning off terminal services in Win7 and dongle femap working? I haven't gotten it to work. Any tips you have here are welcome!
Thanks Thomas! I hadn't thought to try to download the latest security drivers. That solved 2/3 of the problem! I don't have any security driver problems at all, and the solver works.
However, FEMAP still thinks I am running 'terminal server' and says that is not allowed for the standalone...
Thanks for the help guys. I am in discussion about upgrading, but there really shouldn't be any reason I can't get it to work - I got an even older version of autocad to work!
I am running 7 64 bit.
So - I can install FEMAP and I get no errors. However, when I try to run it, I get an error...
I have been running dongle licensed FEMAP v9.2 and NEINastran v8.25 in Windows XP for years. I just upgraded to Windows 7, and am having trouble getting them to load/run. Has anyone done this recently and have helpful advice to share? Thanks in advance, and I can give more details on the...
Thanks IRstuff and Dan. I honestly don't know exactly what my voltage tolerance requirements are and perhaps +/- .05% is too tight - I pulled that from the specs of a strain gauge instrumentation box we have. Dan - do you have another option for a device that would have less ripple? It...
Hello All - I need to power a pressure transducer with 5V and I have a computer nearby. USB provides 5V, but it is not regulated enough for the pressure transducer. Does anybody make a device that you plug into a standard USB hub, but regulates/filters the power out to a better level, say...
Corypad - thanks, can you give me your rationale? Are you basing this on the horizontal marks across the surface, or something based on the grain structure itself?
CoryPad - thanks - I think I see your point.
Ed - I think you're right. According to my reference, MMPDS, the tensile strengths are almost the same. The only real difference is the Fcy in the L direction.
I know after 10 posts, the question starts losing it's charm, but if anyone is still...
Ed - thanks for the input
TVP - thanks for clarifying for me and for the input and the papers. I am looking at them now, although they are a little above my materials pay-grade...
Now, it gets interesting. We had a lab examine some samples, and they send back this:
"The subsequent...
bmikel - I don't want to be a downer, and I don't know all that Mcgettrick has done with the McMaster program, but my experience with today's FAA is that you will have a hard time getting something accepted from a 'canned' program. I don't know how extensive your project is, but a new part 23...
MikeMet - thanks - that is what we are doing.
EdStainless - my reference, MMPDS, has 301 1/4 Hard with very different properties for Fcy. Do you have data to the contrary?
Is there a test that can be done to determine grain direction of stainless 301 1/4 hard sheet? A part has been installed, but grain direction is not known. Specifically, is there a test that could be done installed - meaning tests that don't involve bending the sheet, etc.?
Thanks,
Luke
I can plot freebody displays in FEMAP to calculate the total load on a section. The total loads are shown on the screen by selecting the 'Show Load Summation' checkbox. My question is, is there anyway to ouput/list this data? I want to automate this for several sections, but haven't been able...
Thanks Francesco. You had me excited there for a minute, but I checked the nodes with the constraints, and alas, they have no permanent constraints. One point of clarification--the constraints are coming up with a small, green rectangle.
Luke
Here is a problem I've run into. Normally, when you constrain nodes in femap, the constraints are indicated visually with a cyan triangle and a 1, 2, and/or 3. However, on a model I am building, this is not happening. Instead, they display as a small green square, with no directional...
