I have been running dongle licensed FEMAP v9.2 and NEINastran v8.25 in Windows XP for years. I just upgraded to Windows 7, and am having trouble getting them to load/run. Has anyone done this recently and have helpful advice to share? Thanks in advance, and I can give more details on the problem if anyone thinks they can help.

I would use this as an opportunity to switch to FEMAP V10.1. You'll be glad you did, because you'll see your meshing time reduce by 50%.

Hi

I agree with trainguy that it i s good idea to upgrade. But if that for some reason is no option I think we need som more info.

It's it a 32 vs 64 bit problem? What exactly is the problem?

Thanks for the help guys. I am in discussion about upgrading, but there really shouldn't be any reason I can't get it to work - I got an even older version of autocad to work!

I am running 7 64 bit.

So - I can install FEMAP and I get no errors. However, when I try to run it, I get an error saying 'Error accessing the security device...' and another one saying 'This version not compatible with windows NT terminal server. Only the networked licensed version may be run on terminal server.' This is really two problems, because if it was just the key, it should open in trial/demo mode. I don't know.

The solver/editor actually runs and solves the <300 node test deck, but the dongle software doesn't so it acts like I don't have the key (demo version).

Have you gone through this before? I haven't dug into xp mode yet, but that is where I am heading. Just was looking for anyone who had been through it before and found a solution.

I would contact your reseller, or check on the Siemens PLM site, since they now own FEMAP.

Hi

Have you tested Femap without the dongle installed? It can be that it finds the dongle but something is wrong in the communication, hence an error. If you havent tried it, remove the dongle and test that.

Also, download the latest version of the drivers for the dongle.

If that doesn't work, contact Siemens or your reseller. But the simple solution is probably an upgrade.

Thanks Thomas! I hadn't thought to try to download the latest security drivers. That solved 2/3 of the problem! I don't have any security driver problems at all, and the solver works.

However, FEMAP still thinks I am running 'terminal server' and says that is not allowed for the standalone version. Not quite sure how to fix this yet, but you definitely got me closer.

I don't suppose anyone knows how to trick a program into not thinking it is running on a 'terminal server'?

There are batch files in the femap directory. One of them says: "go_dongle.bat". That might solve your problem.

There's nothing you can do except disable Terminal Server, any dongle FEMAP is hard-coded not to run if Terminal Server is enabled, this prevents a single dongle license being served out on any number of Terminal Server sessions.

Thanks mrfemap - that is what I am discovering. Have you had luck turning off terminal services in Win7 and dongle femap working? I haven't gotten it to work. Any tips you have here are welcome!
