Somewhat related topic, as a standard our company utilizes a 1/16" x 45 deg chamfer on the shell side of every tubesheet tube hole. No chamfer on the tube side hole. Is a shell side chamfer common industry practice?
Thanks again!
Hi,
For double grooved and roller expanded tube to tubesheet joints on a shell and tube heat exchanger, what tube hole groove DEPTH are you using?
Thanks!
Hello,
Is it considered good/sound engineering practice to design a pressure vessel nozzle utilizing a long weld neck flange and a reinforcing pad? You don't see this combination very often and I am assume there must be a reason.
Thanks
Those familiar with the China Code for pressure vessels should know what I am talking about. Cost to have the document translated into English can be very expensive.
If you choose to perform no calculations at all and fabricate exactly to the original design, the following must be noted in your data report remarks for that part: "no design responsibility".

Metengr - Tube holes would be double grooved. I was also going to strength weld the tube joint.
SnTMan - I could change the tubesheet to 2205 duplex but it would exceed the job budget.
If the roll quality is that poor, is it even worth rolling?
Hello,
Has anyone had success roller expanding 2205 duplex tubes in a 304ss tubesheet? (tube yield is approx. 60k / tubesheet yield approx. 30k)
Tubeside gas has some hydrogen content.
Thanks!
Pradip,
I am referring to manual GTAW with the addition of filler metal to create a strength weld. Tube diameters are typically either 5/8" OD or 3/4" OD.
When you use the term "one go" are you referring to welding the tube joint in one continuous pass 360 degrees around? If so, in the 3G...
When welding tube to tubesheet joints in the vertical 3G position, what is the proper weld progression? Can I start at one point and weld 360 degrees around the tube to completion (uphill then downhill.) Or should I start at the bottom and weld upward 180 degrees stop, then start at the bottom...
Hello,
I am looking at a fillet on 304ss material that was welded with GMAW pulse. Some welds appear to have dark discoloration - see attached picture. Is this normal?
