Dear All,

I have a question about calculation for the channel flange.
The channel flange is a part of channel side cover of heat exchanger which was made as per ASME code a long time ago.
In case, my client only want to replace change cover only.

I calculated as per ASME SEC.VIII DIV.1 appendix 2 and the bolt section area is not satisfied to be increased bolt quantity caused pass partition reacting force.

Limited some variable can not be changed, such as bolt size, quantity, gasket size, site space...etc.

For example, I can apply code case 2547 to exempt rigidity calculation of 2-4.
How about the other calculation.
Does it possible omit pass partition effective for code acceptable?

Please give me some suggestion with many thanks.

ChiangJaron, you have two options: 1) Perform calculations per original edition / addenda of Code of construction, 2) perform no calculations at all, completely copy original parts in every detail.

In the past it was common to omit pass ribs in the flange / cover calculations, leading to the complications you describe in replacement work. Fortunately you are typically not obligated to meet current Codes for replacement parts.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

If you choose to perform no calculations at all and fabricate exactly to the original design, the following must be noted in your data report remarks for that part: "no design responsibility".
