Re-reading this after myself, I really did not do a good job at explaining the load case!
I think the following diagram explains it better.
The case is of an eccentrically loaded tension specimen with the intention of superimposing tension and bending loads.
Fixed supports are actually roller...
Hello all,
So, I am familiar with the derivation of the maximum moment and stress of an eccentrically loaded beam with pinned ends. However how does the calculation change when both ends are fixed? Is such a beam overdetermined?
Thanks for your input! :)
I am also attempting to reduce the bending stiffness for the purpose of simulating a prepreg molding process. I am avoiding having to write a material subroutine. Siavash, were you able to successfully use the SHELL GENERAL SECTION keyword to define your material?
Thanks,
Chris
I am trying to find the bending stiffness of prepreg material for simualting a molding process. There are some tests available such as the buckling test, where a strip of prepreg is axialy compressed and the deflection is measured. But then how would you go from that data to calculating the...
Hi,
I am modelling a composite part with varying wall thickness, so I am using continuum shell elements. According to the CAE manual, right now the shell thickness is being taken as the element thickness. Is there a way of overriding the shell thickness? I want to be able to vary it without...
Hello,
I am modelling a composite bicycle rim using continuum shell elements. I am a little confused with how ABAQUS distributes ply properties to elements through the shell. What if I have for example 3 elements through the thickness, but the stacking sequence uses 9 plies?
I found an ABAQUS...
Hello,
I am modeling a composite bicycle wheel rim. As the wheel is symmetrical about its mid-plane and the XY plane, I believe I could reduce the model to 1/4. However I have read in one of the Simulia Composite modeling tutorials that using symmetry constraints is not advisable in composites...
