    CRN

Sorry, late to the game here. In order to entirely bypass ABSA approval, you may want to simply get the material added to B16.34/B16.5. I've done this in the past when I knew that an unlisted material was going to be needed on a regular basis. It can take a little while, I think it took me...

    CODETI - French Piping Specification

Howdy all, I'm trying to track down information on a piping code, CODETI, which I believe is a French Industrial Piping Code. Any ideas where I can buy the most recent (English) version, or has it been superseded by EN 13480 (or some other European standard)? Who is the body that publishes...

    Regulations in Ohio

Hi folks. I'm doing some design work for piping in Toledo, Ohio, and I would like to know what regulatory body, or legislation, governs the design of piping in this area. Piping is mostly B31.3, all of it is in a refining facility. Any links, or references, would be greatly appreciated.

    Pulsating Service Check Valve

It is ridiculously over conservative design in my opinion that assumes that existing measures to control pulsation and to control backflow will both fail. The concern is that because suction and inlet valves are of same type, they will have same failure mechanism, and in case of failure, both...

    ASME B16.5 Flange Ratings

A little late to this thread but... In piping systems in jurisdictions where I have worked, rerates and modifications are typically permitted to be designed to the original code of construction. This has permitted me to use alternate allowable stresses for piping design. I think I recall...

ASME Section VIII edition 2004, is endorsing two separate Units of Mea

jte, The B16.5 forward may sound very scary, but I read a paper issued by the B16 committee on the "metrification" of the standard, and they seem to have done a very good job of it and given it a lot of thought. Rather than simply multiplying by 25.4 and giving the answeer to an undefined...

    Pulsating Service Check Valve

Backflow prevention to prevent damage to compressors/reciprocating pumps. I've had this same issue with a check valve directly downstream of a compressor. The problem is that with constantly fluctuating flow velocity, typical check valves will chatter and are subject to failure through fatigue...

    Pulsating Service Check Valve

Anyone have any good recommendations as to what is the best type of check valve to use immediately downstream of a reciprocating pump?

    Impact testing required or not

Here's a pretty good article to help out people who are not too familiar with the rules... http://www.absa.ca/Forms/AB-511%20Impact%20Testing%20Enigma.pdf

Placing Drawings in MS Word Documents

Thank you very much Exxit...that worked even better than using Microsoft's Visio.

Placing Drawings in MS Word Documents

Alright...this is probably not the best place to post this, but I'm lost. I have a drawing in Intergraph's Smartsketch that I want to get into a Microsoft Word document. I've tried saving the image in a .tif format, but the printout from word looks like it was run through a fax machine. I...

Bolt Design Stresses - ASME B31.3

Bolt Design Stresses - ASME B31.3

So are there no code limits for stresses applied during assembly? If so, where is it stated?

    ASME Section 8 or B31.3

I believe that CSA International can now register components in all jurisdictions in Canada at once. I don't know of anyone who has done this, but it might by worth your time to investigate this option if you plan on selling accross the country.

Bolt Design Stresses - ASME B31.3

Alright, somebody please correct me if I am wrong here. ASME B31.3 302.3.1 states "The allowable stresses defined...shall be used in design calculations unless modified by other provisions of this code." It then goes on to state that the design stresses for bolting materials are as per Table...

    A350-LF2 1997 Version

I'm trying to find out what the 1997 version of ASTM A350 says regarding the LF2 material. 1996 does not specify different classes, the 1999 version specifies Class 1 and Class 2. Does 1997 specify different classes? (Cross Posted under ASTM)

INTEGRALLY REINFORCED OUTLET FITTINGS - WELD SIZE

Hmm. I just bought a large number of olet fittings from WFI international, and I requested that they provide me with the minimum weld size that was required to meet the requirements of code. I believe there have been several interpretations in the past that indicate that the weld design needs...

Applicability of Codes and Standards to Piping

You really need to read the scope of the code. For example, I have required B31.3 compliance on systems that were very low pressure (7 psi), not open to atmosphere, and operating at a temperature of 800°F. The key is to know what you legally/contractually need to do. In some jurisdictions I...
