Looking for information on spacecraft thermal analysis

Wil, An excellent anectode! I thank you. For any others reading, time to start something new. “There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” - C.S. Lewis Mike Pinch

Looking for information on spacecraft thermal analysis

Wil, Thanks for the reply and information. I'll review the links. Yes, this is certainly a specialized field. From the limited online research I've done thus far, there's an amazing amount of knowledge aside from the analytical tools themselves in terms of systems engineering. Mike Mike Pinch

Looking for information on spacecraft thermal analysis

Hi, I'm looking to meet with / collaborate with persons experienced with spacecraft thermal design. Specifically, anyone who's used software tools like C&RT Thermal Desktop, Sinda, Fluint. I have experience with ground-based thermal system design (small electronics products) but want to...

Modeling Half-Sine Shock Load in Cosmosworks

How is a half-sine shock impact load modeled in Cosmosworks? I have been able to model a "Drop Test" but the inputs are drop height, acceleration, and surface hardness (type), and orientation. I think friction effects on the surface can also be included. Is there a way to correlate such a study...

    Sheetmetal

Wow it was over two years since I posted the message! Thanks for the reply, mertsi. I will investigate the newer versions of DesignSpace. Mike Mike Pinch

    Pro/E 2000i2 Smart Buttons

Ron, I found out that PTC's 2000i2 release did in fact change things somewhat as you mentioned. I've installed this version on a few of our workstations, though not mine. Apparently, there are now "Object Templates", much like document templates in MS Word, which include pre-defined...

    Pro/E 2000i2 Smart Buttons

We develop smart buttons on the Pro/E window, attached to mapkeys, to assist in our work. A couple of these buttons create "start parts" automatically by creating new parts/assemblies with parameters, layers and views already defined in a consistent style. This information is captured...

    Sheetmetal

I have tried to import a Pro/E sheetmetal part into DesignSpace, both singly and as part of an assembly. It failed. Ansys says that DesignSpace does not yet support thin parts which require shell elements. Is this true? Does any one have other experience with this?
Mike Pinch
automatic removal of small features in DesignSpace/SolidWorks

I tried it once and it seemed to work. What worked best was calling tech support and finding out that you really need to crank up the density ("relevance"?) of the mesh in high-gradient areas to get a meaningful result for scalar (temperature) solutions.
Mike Pinch
ProE advanced training CD or web site

I used CadTrain while at Tektronix, and liked it quite a bit. It works best on a large monitor >19" since it relies on a Web browser running concurrently with Pro/E to be useful.
Mike Pinch
Why are my motors so big?

Christian, Excellent point! I did put reducers in the design (planetary/epicyclic) with reductions of 3:1 in one case and 20:1 in the other. I must admit, the motor would've been Really HUGE if I hadn't. As it turned out the motor was just Huge. I can e-mail a Kollmorgen Motioneering model...

Why are my motors so big?

Thanks jbartos. I will keep an eye open. I assume from your message that I'm not correctly sizing my motors. Any others out there please feel free to advise me on the correct way to do this. My background is mechanical engineering.
Mike Pinch
Why are my motors so big?

Are you ready for a laugh? For the past few motion control applications I've designed, a strange thing has happened. I do a thorough characterization of my mechanical system, finding all the mass moments of inertia of components hooked up to the motor, etc. Even stiffnesses of components are...

    Material handling standards

Looking for info: Our company is developing a product which may be used in the material handling industry. The product is a small plastic part which is attached to items using screws, rivets or adhesive. The question is, how strong does the attachment method and part need to be? Are there...

    Impact Testing Standards

Does anyone have suggestions regarding product testing for impact? I am familiar with Izod/Charpy tests. This product is a small plastic device which is attached to items with fasteners, rivets, adhesive, etc. We plan to market this device to the material handling industry, under M10...
