You are right, I do not have complete geometry information about the tee joint.
Till now what I have done is modelled two intersecting cylinder of 16in. diameter at right angles to each other.
This result in a sort of singularity at the intersection. I do not know how to remove this...
Hi :
For use in a 16in pressure vessel, I am trying to calculate the allowable nozzle loads on a 16in Tee.
Can someone tell me how do I calculate the allowable loads per ASME pressure vessel code ?
Thanks
Kapil,Cincinnati
Hi,
I am having huge trouble meeting the customer requirement on a 4" Nozzle. The loads are as follows :
P(lbf) V(lbf) Mt(ft*lbf) Mc(ft*lbf)
185 210 885 276 Weight
278 315 975 414 Seismic
467 575 1355 736...
Hi,
I am looking for yield stress for this material CA360 "Brass Bulkhead Couplings".
Do any of you know the value or if someone can point to reference that would be great.
Thanks

TGS4,
After looking at table 5.3, as suggested by you, I have few questions.
The seven load combination does not consider the nozzle loads due to thermal expansion/contraction. Does it mean per ASME, I need not check for thermal loads at all and only consider the load case 4) D+0.7*E ...
Hi.
The nozzle loads as per the customer spec. includes loads due to (Weight+Pressure),Thermal and Seismic.
Now, Customer wants us to add all these loads and qualify the nozzles.
I am using WRC-297 for stress calculation. Now, simply adding these loads and checking against the Local Membrane...
Hi,
I am currently working on designing a blast resistant door per TM5-1300 (Now UFC 3_340_02) Manual. The parameters (Blast door is double leaf 187.5 X 196 in, each leaf supported on two sides)are such that using a 2" thick steel plate results in support rotation angle of 3 degree. Now...
Hi :
I am trying to model a Tee-Joint Piping in Ansys.
What I have done so far is modelled to 2 cylinders of 8 inch radius intersecting at 90 degrees to each other. Next I am trying to create a fillet area of 24 inch radius at the intersection. However, Ansys is having trouble creating that...
Hi :
I am designing anchor bolts per ACI 318-05. I have seismic g loading's of 0.6g in horizontal and vertical direction per IBC 2003, and this is the only load I have to consider. What load factor do I use for my calculations per ACI 318-05 ?
Hi :
While performing a seismic analysis. how should one determine which method to use a) Dynamic Analysis or b) Static Coefficient Analysis ?
Thanks,
Kapil
Sorry, I was not clear in my last post. The question was to determine the reaction force on the hanger.
Now, While applying the conservation of momentum, will the reaction force on each elbow be the same or would it be different. What is the worst case scenario ?
Thanks,
Kapil,EWI
Hi :
I have a system to pipe network, consisting of 4 Pipes and 3 elbows (90 degrees).
Fluid Flows through one end of the pipe at a pressure of 35psi and flow rate 2787 ft^3/min and leaves at pressure of 20 psi from the other end.
Now, my task is to design the pipe hangers, which would have...
Hi All :
I need to figure out the pull out load in an expansion joint. The joint consists of two aluminium pipe, with a 1" gap and covered with Ventglas (a heavy glass fabric double-coated with duPont's Neoprene(polychloroprene))and which is clamped at both ends with Stainless Steel Hose...
Hi :
I am trying to figure the bolt preload due to torque on the clamp. But I am not able to figure out the size of the screw used for this clamp. The max I know is they say use 5/16" hex nut driver to tighen it. Can somebody help ?
These are specs for the clamp ...
Hi All :
How do we find the axial load a pipe a take before it slips from the Hose Clamps at the expansion joint ?
I have two aluminium pipes wrapped around by Ventglas Sheet( Forming an expansion Joint). The Ventglas sheet is clamped to the aluminium pipe using 4 hose clamps, two on each...
Hi :
An Expansion Joint, joining two pieces of Aluminium pipe is wrapped around by Ventglas. The Ventglas is clamped tightly at the ends using a Two Stainless Steel Clamps.
Now I need to determine the friction forces occuring which restricts the axial movement. How do I determine the friction...
Hi All :
There are two aluminum pipe pieces having a 1" gap between them and this gap is covered by Ventglas Wrapped around it. Helium gas with a pressure of 35 psi flows through the pipe. My task is to find out what the maximum gap can be without the Ventglas failure.
Now, the strength of...
Hi :
I am currently working on a project where I have a design a blast door. I am following TM5-1300 Manual to design the same.
The loading is such that using a monolithic plate of 2" does not meet the customer requirements. I cannot use a thicker plate. So the only option left is to have...
Hi All :
As described in "Design and Construction of Lifting Beams" by David T. Ricker the minimum lug thickness should be 0.5in, in order to prevent dishing.
However for my project :
1) Weight of the equipment to be lifted is only 3000 lbs.
2) 4 lifting lugs will be used.
3) I can only go...
Hi All :
Thanks for all of your previous replies.
Now, I have another question. Our customer wants the blast doors in
unseating direction, i.e. the blast force will then have to be
resisted by rebound pins and hinges during blast and by the frame
during rebound.
Now, in order to consider a...
