Waross,
If my theory is correct, then the case of the unit is becoming energized and shorting to the grounded track the unit sits on. Swapping the H1 and H2 leads won't affect this as the tank will still be energized and these leads in this test mode are only measuring voltage.
Interesting...
All,
I'm having a weird result when trying to No load loss test a new batch of 75KVA 24.9/14.4x120/240 single phase pad mount transformers. These units are essentially a single bushing pole mount transformer in a box with with H1 being the primary connection and H2 being grounded to the case...
Hello all,
My question relates to CT connections on the primary bus in our substations. Most of the CT's we run in our station have 2 bolt connectors but are rated well above what we would typically allow a 2 bolt connector to carry. I'm specifying jumper size based on transformer ratings but...

Yes, the generator should be grounded to our system neutral at the pad-mount transformer. I know our transformer is a Delta(Primary)-Wye grounded(Secondary) and I assume the generator is the same on their side but would need to confirm. Assuming this is the case, I see what you mean...
All,
I've been approached by our metering department regarding a generator a member has installed for the purposes of peak shaving. This generator syncs with the utility and then assumes a portion of the members load to curtail the members peak load for load management purposes. On a recent...
Does anyone know of an arrester manufacturer that makes an overhead distribution arrester that is mounted in parallel with a dead end insulator and is therefore suspended under the line instead of mounted to the dead end structure with a bracket. We require arresters on both sides of a normal...
I only work with high voltage cable (i.e. 7.2kv to 14.4 kv), so this is all I can speak to. I know our main concern with our cables during pulling is the tension from the pull and the minimum bending radius. Both of these concerns manifest in similar damage to the cable. We see the insulation...
I am going to plead ignorance here and ask a question. All the substation breaker does is open and close the circuit. How could this cause a surge arrestor to fail? The voltage before and after the breaker operation should be the same correct?

Ok, I am a bit embarrassed to ask this but I am totally confused. I recently installed a 500 KVA 277/480 padmount transformer. The question arose when I needed to size the CT loops for the new load. How many amps per phase is a 500KVA Tx capable of. The formula I use to find amps is...
