    Shell and tube heat exchanger maximum temperature and pressure

    Would it be possible to heat CO2 which is at 20 - 40 psia pressure to a final temperature of 400 deg C, in a heat exchanger of the shell and tube type? I suppose that the heating medium (hot air, for example) should have an entry temperature of 500 deg C. I seem to recall reading somewhere...

    Head loss at Entrance

    You had better use a flared inlet if you are concerned about pressure loss. For air ducts, conical intake has 0.25VP entry loss, plain pipe has 1.0VP entry loss. VP = velocity pressure. Sorry I don't have data on water pipes. Sundar Narayan
