    Machined Flanged Pipe Spool

Thanks for the replies, for some reason I'm not getting email notifications despite it being turned on. To address a few of the questions, the 4.02 bore came 4" SCH40 weld neck flanges that I was originally using. I recently discovered long weld neck flanges and maybe I could take a 4" LWNF...

    Machined Flanged Pipe Spool

Located in the US. Pipe and flanges are readily available here. Using standard weld neck flagnes, I'd have to weld bosses on to the tapered part of the weld neck in order to get the proper instrument spacing within the same overall length. Not sure if that is allowed.

    Machined Flanged Pipe Spool

I'm designing a fluids test loop in a laboratory and need to design and have fabricated a short pipe spool with flanged ends. I initially modeled something with a WN flanges and a short section of pipe but because I needed to fit in half a dozen instrument taps and a NPT branch connection...

    Welding of bellmouth inside tank

    @LittleInch Thanks!

    Welding of bellmouth inside tank

As a followup to [thread292-471719], we have existing a settling tank fabricated from pipe to B31.1 with an 18" flanged end. As discussed in the old thread, I'm designing a new exit for the settling tank and arrived at 18x6 reducing weld neck flange welded to 6" stub end to connect to the new...

Slip-On Reducing flange pass through welding

I ended up switching to specifying a weld neck reducing 18x6 flange and a lap joint flange with the bellmouth welded to the interior side of the flange. Cuts the number of welds from 5 to 2 and eliminates the question of how to properly weld the SO flange. To answer Littleinch, its a hydraulic...

Slip-On Reducing flange pass through welding

In my head I was stuck in piping mode and I didn't think of the 18" being the boundary between B31 and BPVC. I'll look through VIII-1 discussion on welding nozzles, perhaps UG-39 holds the key...

Slip-On Reducing flange pass through welding

I have a settling tank with 18" Class 150 flange on one end. I've been asked to design a 6" bell-mouth exit for the settling tank through the flange. I couldn't get it to insert inline, but I've attached a sketch of the pipe spool concept I've mocked up. The site requires that it be designed...

    ASME B16.5 flanged fitting availability

I'm in Pennsylvania. I think the designers are starting to relax on requirements and allow flanges welded to a B16.9 (butt weld) reducer so hopefully this problem will go away soon!

    ASME B16.5 flanged fitting availability

I was asked to design and procure a seamless flanged 150# class 8x6" reducer per B16.5 and B31.1 in stainless for a project. A specific taper angle was also specified. I went to see what's commercially available as a starting point and I can't seem to find anyone making seamless flanged...

Nuclear Air Compressor (Hybrid Nuclear Power)

A colleague of mine sent this to me--the idea combines a helium reactor with a combined cycle fossil plant and claims 50% efficiency. An interesting idea, who knows if it will take off...

    Jobs in nuclear engineering

I also second rcchap... I got my start in a systems engineering group at a two-unit 70s vintage nuclear site and the experience gained was invaluable. After a few years I joined a large engineering/construction company to get involved more with the design side of the industry. Having spent a...

    Metric to American conversion

I'm guessing too that they mean water column... check out the conversion here: http://www.onlineconversion.com/pressure.htm 24 meter of head = 78.72 foot of head

Rules of thumb governing makeup water to loop seal

It might...I found an equation from nusselt that covers condensation inside tubes that I will work through on Monday. On the other hand, it might make for some good PE exam practice.

    Mechanical water heater

I chartered a sailboat with twin 75 hp diesels. Each one had a small hot water tank. The coolant from the engine passed through a coil in the water tank to heat it. I didn't get a close enough look to notice whether sea water cooled the engine directly in a once through loop or if sea water...

Rules of thumb governing makeup water to loop seal

I am trying to determine the makeup water requirements to a large loop seal in an overflow line for condensate drain tank. To help visualize the system, I dusted off my ASCII art skills to create a P&ID: FWH | ___ TNK \ /-COND | s|_|--!-o--<-SealSupply | \-x-/ PP-->...

2002 Subaru Impreza Cold Weather Fuel Leak Fix

I actually mispoke on it being an elbow, it had been years since I looked at the technical service bulletin. The rubber part wasn't an elbow but a union and the fix was to shorten the metal fuel pipe by 30mm and lengthen the rubber hose by 30mm "to better align the two fuel...

2002 Subaru Impreza Cold Weather Fuel Leak Fix

If there are any 2002/2003 Subaru WRX Impreza owners on the forum, Subaru is finally taking responsibility for a cold weather fuel leak on 02/03. If your registration is up to date with Subaru, you should be receiving a letter extending warranty coverage on the fuel lines to 12 years/unlimited...

Vertical Turbine Pump Min-Flow Recirculation: On/Off or Modulating

No worries, there is too much blood in my caffeine vessels right now so I probably didn't word things the best. The pumps are actually the condensate pumps for a traditional power plant. They pump condensate through several feedwater heaters into a dearator/feedwater storage tank. I...
