    Section Properties: Face Selecting

Thanks for the advice. I've been messing with Intersection Curves, etc. to see if there are any other potential ways. Anyone have any other thoughts? Jon

    Copying Multiple Sketches

I am trying the suggestions, but it still only copies one sketch. I am selecting multiple (which exist on one plane), selection "Copy", selecting the new plane, and selecting "Paste". This only copies one sketch... Jon

    Copying Multiple Sketches

Thanks for the help, but I need to make a copy of the sketch...for lofting purposes. Is there a way to copy all of them in one swoop? On the "new plane" note: I have selected multiple planes before and performed that function, but it only seems to do it on the first plane...any thoughts? Jon

    Copying Multiple Sketches

I'm trying to copy multiple sketches that exist on one plane to another plane. It seems that I have to do this one sketch at a time...is there a faster way? Thanks in advance... Jon

    Section Properties: Face Selecting

I have a part that has roughly 100 extrusions on it. I need to take the section properties in an area where these 100 extrusions have no common face i.e. whenever I need to get the section properties of all of them at once, I have to select 100 different faces and "add" them all to the section...

    Torsion Constant - J

I apologize - I see the various worksheets down at the bottom of the spreadsheet, in which the third one is calculating J. Only problem is that my cross sections are nothing like that. Basically, I have a cross section of an aircraft with the skin and the stringers attached to the skin. I...

    Torsion Constant - J

Thanks for the links. I was browsing through the SectProp spreadsheet, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like that is calculating the Polar Moment of Inertia J, NOT the Torsional Constant J....right? If anyone has any input on this or, again, knows where I could find something that...

    Torsion Constant - J

Hey everyone...quick question: I have a cross section of a solid that is, well, quite nasty looking, but I need to calculate the Torsion Constant J (not polar moment of inertia). Is there a software package that would allow me to do this? I have been using SolidWorks for my modeling and other...

    Just The Solid...

The main reason for making a dumb part is for speed. Taking section views takes at least 10 minutes if not longer to create. 50 foot object taking section properties every 20 inches, I need everything I can to speed the part up. Will saving it as a parasolid help this out at all? Thanks...

    Just The Solid...

I've got a quick question: I'm working on a part that I ultimately need to perform a lot of section views and section properties on (mass moments of intertia, etc.) Is there a way to save my part such that all of the data used to make that part is gone I am simply left with a solid? Better...

    Surfacing Trouble

Maybe this will help. I'm trying to fill the square the is bound by the selected (green) lines. http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/080b5e05df.jpg "Fill Surface" nor "Surface Loft" will allow this to happen. From what I understand that you are saying, this should be possible...

    Surfacing Trouble

Sure...sorry for the lack of thorough explination on my end. I'm really trying to isolate and have ONLY the center square remaining with a loft. Eventually I want to have a thickness there, which is actually going to be representing the skin on an aircraft, but the way I currently have the...

    Surfacing Trouble

Thanks much for the correction...I'll be curious to see what you guys think. Jonathan K.

    Surfacing Trouble

Jeff -- Thanks a ton for your help on this. I tried the selection of the bounding curves BEFORE I clicked on "Trimming Surface", yet the tool is greyed out once I select those curves. I should add that those curves are being used as guide curves in the loft of original surface. Below is a...

    Surfacing Trouble

Thanks for that tip. I believe I see what you mean, it's just that I will be having to do this multiple times, so the more streamlined I can make the process, the better. When I try to do this in SolidWorks 2003 using the "Filled Surface" tool, I get error message eluding to "open boundaries"...

    Surfacing Trouble

I am tackling a large surfacing job that requires surfaces defined by various 3-D splines. I have two questions: can a loft be created by 4 3-D splines that define an enclosed space but continue beyond that corners of that space (imagine a tic-tac-toe board with the center square being lofted...
