It sounds to me like you have created the view of the plate using "part view" rather than "base view". This adds another occurance of the part into the assembly structure.
Your options are:
1. create an arrangement in the subassembly that supresses the other components, leaving only the plate...
Another option (rather than changing your part or component name) is to add an attribute to each component (eg SORT), then display that attribute as a column in the ANT. The value of the attribute can be changed in each component file to achieve the sort order you require - could be numeric or...
bw2839 - I have seen the same problem here where NX is loading a part into memory but that part is not visible in the ANT and so it is not possible to close the part. I basically came up with the same method to fix that you have used - load structure only, run part cleanup (deleting unused...
perhaps visible in view has been set (accidentally?). Go to format > visible in view > reset to global. Now try turning layers on or off. Does it respond? Another test would be if you changed the view (eg replace view) and see if the layers behave correctly.

Laura,
The 2 seperate files is what we call master model approach, the drawing is really an assembly that contains your model file as a component. The reason your not seeing the curves is that they are probably not in the reference set being used by the drawing. I assume when you said that it...
