Shall I measure deflection results on the point of a concentrated load application?

Hi, I am modelling an internally reinforced beam, composed of steel sheet of 2 mm in ANSYS MECHANICAL APDL. I am applying concentrated loads as simple bending. I need the deflection results in at least one point. Shall I use the point where the load is applied? Or any other point is suitable...

How to increase compatibility of CAD geometry imported into ANSYS MECHANICAL APDL

Hi, I am designing a multi-solid CAD model in INVENTOR and I am trying to import it to ANSYS MECHANICAL APDL for FEA. I tried to import it in .x_t, .sat, .IGS. Nothing works. The best I can get is a good geometry in the .sat format, but ANSYS quickly crashes if I try to do something to the...

how to automate multiple ANSYS APDL input files run to get results output

Hi, I am using ANSYS Mechanical APDL in the company I am working in and I need to run +100 APDL input files. What should I do to automate the process? I would like to know if there is any tool that allows me to create of input files to be run by order and save the relevant parameters to text...

How can I manufacture a reliable all-steel structure with cross ribs????

Hi Mr. Brian, Thanks for the reply. It is not really a problem, because this ribbing pattern will be applied to several structures, all of them already tested.

How can I manufacture a reliable all-steel structure with cross ribs????

Hi Mr. Berkshire, After extensive study, we found out that the lower the thickness is, the better will be the behaviour of the part in relation to unribbed parts. This was tested numerically with very fine mesh.

How can I manufacture a reliable all-steel structure with cross ribs????

Hi Mr. Mike, Are you allowed to fold the free rib edges to stiffen them? No Can you post a textbook or something about what you suggested? And can you detail more your explanation? thanks, Hugo

How can I manufacture a reliable all-steel structure with cross ribs????

Hi Mr. Berkshire, Thanks for your reply, I'm answering your questions below: You do not say what material you want to use Structural Steel, can be a Dual-Phase or another and you do not give us the size of the part. The plate shall have dimensions of 2*300*1000 mm. The ribbed...

How can I manufacture a reliable all-steel structure with cross ribs????

Hi Mr. Mike, Thanks for your reply. Below I'm answering your questions: What experimental testing? It is for simple bending and torsion loads, both separately and coupled. Why would anyone care about chemical composition of a structural part? Chemical composition is important...

How can I manufacture a reliable all-steel structure with cross ribs????

Hello, So I want to manufacture a structure with cross ribs, as shown in attachment. My question is: how can I manufacture it? I think it is better to manufacture the ribs and the plate separately. I was thinking about using angle soldering, but the surfaces have much different dimensions, and...

Books about Inertia moment, center of mass, centroid: need references

Ok, so now I found one: Do you think this book is good? : James M. Gere, Barry J. Goodno, "Mechanics of Materials", SI Edition (8th edition)

How to add dimensions to a draft with breaks (real dimensions, with less space)

Hello, I am doing a CAD draft on Inventor, and I have a part that has 1000 mm lenght. It does not fill the paper. I know how can I break the part, but what about the dimensions? How can I tell the model that I want to reduce 900 mm, lets say, and still have a 1000 mm dimension, with the break...

Analytic equation to calculate the XY inertia moment in relation to the origin

Hello All, I am modelling a structure in ANSYS APDL and I need to compare the Inertia moment of the structure given by ANSYS with analytical calculations. My structure can be considered as several rectangular parts. I know that I=b*h^3/12 in relation to the center of mass. But for this case, in...

to manufacture an internally stiffened plate made from sheet steel

Hi, Thanks for all the replies. To CompositePro: I would like to know more about Furnace braze. Can you post a document about its fundaments, with schemes?? To Tmoose: Yes, all the stiffeners are full-section To MikeHalloran: Can you post the link?? I can't find it on google...

to manufacture an internally stiffened plate made from sheet steel

Hello all, I am trying to manufacture a ribbed plate that is reinforced inside with stiffeners. I can weld the stiffeners to one plate, but then I want to weld the other plate, and I can't access the reinforcement. The stiffeners have low thickness, like 2-3 mm. I´m attaching a picture of a FEM...

how to manufacture an internally reinforced steel hollow-box beam

Thanks for the reply MikeHalloran and rb1957 To MikeHalloran: Sorry about my lack of knowledge about technical terms in English but what do you mean by : -fin -"mill slots" "stepped on two edges" "weld seams" Do you have any document (.pdf for instance) that you can attach with schemes about...

how to manufacture an internally reinforced steel hollow-box beam

Thanks for the reply, A rib is between 30-50 cm long. The ribs are not all oriented in the same direction a beam with section width b=0,2 m and section height h=0,3 m and lenght L=1m has 10-20 ribs in each side. Material is construction steel. Thickness of the ribs and of the beam is 2-4 mm...

how to manufacture an internally reinforced steel hollow-box beam

Dear all, I´m new in this forum. I don't even know if this section is the most appropriate to post my question. I want to manufacture a steel beam that is ribbed inside. Basically it´s an hollow-box beam, but it is not bulk along the thickness. It is internally reinforced with steel ribs. I...
