Hi Everybody,
Normally a struture analysis books contains many chapters for analysis of beams, slabs and column of a frame. But i am looking for materials (web sites, notes, books etc) especially dedicated to analysis and design of arch structures (especially bridges)
Can anybody help me...
Dear Qshake and J Sthepen,
Thanks for response....actually in the hilly countries liek Nepal, from where I am, arch bridge is still a better option where we have to bridge deep gorges and river valleys.
Actually I am looking for the theoritical aspect of structural analysis of a two hinged arch...
Dik,
Thanks for reponse.....actually I am talking about the two hinged arch analysis irrespective of materials....I am focussing on the theoritical aspect of the arch in structural analysis.
I will check the sheffield uni site....

Hi Masomenos,
Thanks ......it solved my problem.I relesed moment at both ends in frames representating cables and i released moments and shear in one end only of the frame representating tower

Hi Masonmenos,
Thanks for response,....can you please be more specific in your suggestion...simply making the frame connecting the tower top as cable still transfer horizontal component of cable to tower which creates a great moment at the base of the tower....so please advice
Hi everybody,
Can anyone tell me how to model the joint of a cable stayed bridge at the top of the supporting tower where cable rests on a rolling saddle at the top of the tower.
This joint should transfer only (not horizontal load and bending moment)the vertical load from cable to tower

Jackyyau,
First of all I am confused that you have mentioned there are four supports. Are you placing the shell or horizontal plane so that it actually acts like a slab of 0.6 m thick and 1.0 m wide.
If I am right that you have placed it flat on horizontal plane, then M11 or M22 of shell will...
Dear Dawn836,
How to draw import solids from Autocad DXF. For example frame members can be represented by simple lines in Autocad, Shell members can be represented by 3D surface. So what represents solids for SAP in AutoCAD
Thanks in advance
Hi to all,
I think there is one method to do modelling in SAP 2000
Its importing DXF file.
If one is good in drawing 3D surfaces in AutoCAD, one can model shell element of complex shapes in Autocasd and import in SAP as DXF

Dear POPABF
First you have created wall using several sheel elements and making these connected to surrounding beams and columns(by dividing the beams and columns also)
Then simily remove the shells to represent door or window opening, You dont have to do naything with constrains

Hey popauf
Instead of changing any thing in the existing model, simply split the member where the damage is.
Now the new node will be used to represent damaged portion of the member. You may be able do something on constrain of the node to represent the damage...like if it only transfers axial...
Hi ,
can any one tell me how to model solids in SAP 7.4 version...not using importing SAP 90(modelling solid in SAP 90 is also cumbersome)
Like shell and frame can be modelled from imported DXF format ...can solid also be imported from autocad DXF
Dear POPAUF,
To model a frame structure with slab and walls , first start with simple model using frame members only. Then Add shell members as necesary. BUt be carefull about one thing. If walls are not of concrete and are not monolithic with surrounding beams and columns, you can not model...
Please tell me where to find the example with codes for drawing in AutoCad by writing codes in Visual Basic. (and off course free of cost and online!!!!)
