Wondering if someone here can suggest the proper way to install the top unit of a stacking. As of now, with the top exchanger plumb, only one of the interconnecting nozzles connect properly with 1/8" gap for gasket insertion. The other tubeside interconnecting Nozzle flanges read 0.32" @0°...
Thanks MM for your response.
Yes the pipe is attached to vessel by welding and as such 100% UT/RT of the closure joint per para 345.2.3(c) of ASME B31.3 to qualify/test the joint. I was trying to confirm if the joint meets the definition of "Closure Weld".
Secondly, if one were to argue...
Guys, I am trying to confirm if para 345.4.3(b) of ASME B31.3 "Hydrostatic test of Piping with vessel as a system" applicable to Pneumatic testing as well.
My situation is relief valve and the associated piping is rated for a much higher pressure compared to the pressure vessel it is...
Thanks Metengr for your post. This is exactly what I was looking for. I amooking to design a bonnet for my unit and I believe aforementioned codecase will make the use of ASTM A494-M-35-2 casting suitable for this application.
I couldn't find the 1750-20 code case in my department liabrary but...
I was wondering if anyone has any experience using ASTM A494-M-35-2 casting in a ASME section VIII Div 1 application. where can I find the allowable stresses at different temperatures? Do I need to get it dual certified to a diffrent spec since its not listed in 2-D?
Any help is appretiated.

So you were in junior high school in 1955, so was my dad. Guess I couldn’t be blamed either.
Anyways, I do agree with you, that the equipment is being re-rated in the present time, so the present code must be applicable. But the thing is, since its a pre 1968 exchanger, I have to...
Guys,
I have referred a lot of literature on the issue but my problem remains to be unsolved.
I am rerating a few exchangers built back in 1955 to a higher shell and tube side design pressure. To my understanding I can use the code effective at that time along with the old stess values for...
picasa,
First of all, beginning this year Tubesheet design per ASME Sec VIII, Div 1 - UHX has become mandatory. In other words I wouldnt even bother designing TS per TEMA.
Again, Its true that tubesheet are not typically designed for differential pressure as the thickness arrived at letting...
This might sound a bit strange. I have a customer spec. that calls for an outer centering ring on GMGC gasket.
From my experience in heat exchanger design, I havent come across a situation where a GMGC gasket has a centering ring.
I know ofcourse that this is a requirement for a spiral wound...
Can somebody suggest the procedure to carry out external pressure design for temperatures outside the range of External presssure chart.
I have design temperature of 1130° F and the yeild stress values are not listed at such high temperatures in 2-D. I believe that is what is causing the...
