http://www.eia.org/ Ashelin - I found this website advertised in a magazine. It has links to electronics recycling/reusing locations in the USA.

How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

In NB, Canada we have seen a lot of 1.39$cdn/l converted at 85c to the US dollar I find 4.54 $US/GalUS Still much better than Europe it seems, but enough to make people think about their driving habits &choices

    Should I ask my Boss???????

that's great PEinc! Let me extend my previous comment to include repressed male employees also! I bet if this guy was Casseopia's boss she wouldn't have thought twice about doing the article

    Should I ask my Boss???????

I think you should do it. I think women in 'non-traditional' fields are much too easily swayed to modify their after work behaviour to please their conservative male bosses (& even coworkers). (I'm sure the woman in this forum could come up with enough examples of this to start a new thread)...

    Kyoto 2

Moltenmetal - I like your thinking Please elaborate on how engineers can be the leaders of this change. Many of us are not in positions of leadership at work - and are not involved in politics.

    Kyoto 2

I was thinking... We can't agree on global warming. We can't agree on whether or not Kyoto makes sense. However, there is something that is happening right now as a consequence of our lifestyles that no one can deny. SMOG. In this season of smog warnings that has gross, -and more...

GMcD Interesting Do you have examples of these types of high performance at no extra cost buildings? Any suggested reading?

    Maybe Finland has smarter students?

It is difficult for a high school student to truly judge what the job market is like in any field. Just as it is difficult to know if they will like working in that field when they graduate - even though they may have enjoyed the coursework. In my part of the world - much more could be done in...

-> star to CRG for the standby power article. thanks. -> for appliances I should have said if you are planning on replacing appliances, buy energy star. A typical 10 year old refrigerator uses twice the power that a recent model energy star rated refrigerator uses I agree that replacing...

    Environmental Action

To get this thread back on its original tracks here are more environmental actions to take at home: - compost to recycle fruit, vegetable and cereal scraps to reduce waste and benefit your yard - replace worn appliances with energy star appliances - turn off computer, lights when not in use -...

Will Kyoto cause the US problems?

Haf Technologies already exist in both sun and wind that pay for themselves in short time spans. Also, as with any technology, as its popularity grows production costs will go down even further.

Zapster, We are not at all pretending that we do not pollute, simply celebrating the steps we've been able to take to consciously reduce the size of our footprint. And from other peoples suggestions we may find that there are other things that we can do. ... I don't understand why you are...

Agreed that it is difficult to assign "true cost" but I'm sure economists can come up with approximations. (Actually I've heard some are already working on it, had a friend who had a summer job doing that... not sure what her conclusions are going to be used for yet but interesting isn't it)...

makeup - these are suggestions of things that should be done correct? At first glance I like the charge people per sack of waste idea - except that people will start dumping wherever instead of using municipal waste streams. "Real cash benefits to those who do the above" though I think would...

Will Kyoto cause the US problems?

BobPE the more you talk, the more you sound like you are against any form environmental action. I've concluded that you think we should simply live life large while we still can in the name of preventing human suffering (?!)- quite the opposite of the "middle ground" on which you say you are...

    1. still drive our little honda civic even though we now have two kids. we do camping, and we do haul 2x4's by lowering the back seat. I really don't mind not having a minivan or SUV. designed our residence with less square footage than most new residences (reduces amount of building...

It is apparent from the thread regarding Kyoto that we will never all agree on Kyoto, climate change - why it's happening it and what to do about it... However, it looks like everyone agrees to some degree that reducing pollution is beneficial So, as an educational exercise, I'd like to ask...

Will Kyoto cause the US problems?

In response: Yes I do think that Canada seriously needs to review the way it is managing its forests. I am not here to criticize the US position, simply to better understand the reasons behind it and to understand what Americans intends to do while we tackle the Kyoto goals. I am surprised...

Will Kyoto cause the US problems?

BobPE I do not believe that helping the environment = human suffering. How have you come to such a conclusion?
