    Customizing an Enterprise PDM Task

I didn't see a PDM sub-forum, so I'll ask here: I am running the convert files task to convert our released drawings to PDF for the rest of the company/world to access when they hit that point in the workflow. I would like to have the PDF filename contain metadata from the source file, namely...

    ctopher's materials database

I think the problem was on my end. I called it "Custom Materials" which seems to be a reserved name in Solidworks 2010. However, I also ran it through an XML parser and reformatted it. Who knows. Clearly the problem was on my end. Sorry for the alarm.

    ctopher's materials database

This isn't working for me in 2010 SP2.1. It works fine in 2009 SP5.1. Has anyone else experienced problems getting the database to work in 2010 and if so, how did you solve them? -Matt

    Dual Monitor Software OpenGL Option

I had this problem, word for word (same setup and maybe even same resolutions) and my VAR said to check the OpenGL box as well. I haven't had any weirdness (what you described, model view stays static or allows highlighting edges, but you can't actually see what's going on, though the...

    Thermoformed tray design in SW

Shell! I need to remember that these functions exist. A star for you. That sounds a lot simpler and probably ends up with a better result than what I was thinking.

    Thermoformed tray design in SW

Is there a good tutorial available for doing thermoformed tray design in SW? I'm playing around with using the indent and deform tools as well as some surfacing tricks. However, if someone has a methodology they'd like to share, I'm all ears. I tried searching this forum and Google and didn't...

Solidworks Layout Sketch in Assy question

I made a simple layout sketch and blocks to show the motion of a piston. In the layout sketch, all the members move as they should. The horizontal member remains fixed, the angled bar pivots, and the piston moves vertically. I made parts from each block. At first, when I went to move the parts...

renaming an assy with virtual components

Update: this wasn't fixed in SP4. I still have to go through the steps my VAR described.

Macro to change the template for multiple drawing files?

Hm. Well, I solved it by changing that line to use the SaveAs method and gave it the same part name as the open part and that worked fine. No idea why Save3 didn't work. retval = Part.SaveAs(MyDir & "\" & MyFile)

how do I put a dimple pattern on a non-flat curved surface

How about using the wrap feature? Make a linear sketch pattern with what you want and then wrap it onto the surface.

Macro to change the template for multiple drawing files?

Thanks CBL! I also want to learn, so if any VB/macro gurus can take a look at this and explain why I can't save the active document in my macro, I'd appreciate it. This is just meant to work - there's very little in the way of functionality or error handling. -Matt '...

Macro to change the template for multiple drawing files?

Everything looked like it was specific to working with the currently open file. Which one did you have in mind? I started a macro but am having trouble with the SetupSheet4 function. -Matt

Macro to change the template for multiple drawing files?

Was anyone able to get this problem solved for an entire folder of drawings? I have somewhere around 1200 that need the sheet format changed. Thanks, Matt

    Completely constraining cylindrical parts

In that case, you can use a "lock" mate to lock one component to another. I haven't used it yet myself, (new to 2008?) but that sounds like it will do what you want. -Matt

renaming an assy with virtual components

I talked with my VAR and got it. Not only do you have to save as, rename, check references and save all as copy, but then you need to go into explorer, select the assembly, open up the references tab and replace all of the aforementioned out-of-context references.

    Completely constraining cylindrical parts

Once you have two of the mates in place, you could fix the part in space.

renaming an assy with virtual components

I can't figure out how to change the file name of an assembly that has virtual components in it without causing the references to become out-of-context. The virtual components are still looking for the original name of the assembly. Even save all as copy doesn't seem to work. Anyone solve this...

    Additional text added to BOM

In 2008, if the said BOM column is linked to a custom property, you can choose to "Keep Link" when editing the BOM. It then updates the property with whatever you type. Unfortunately, I don't think QTY is one of those column types.

    flex/deform while maintaining faces/bodies

I have a part (attached) that I am trying to bend. However, I am trying to bend it only where the through slot is, and nowhere else. I want the other faces to remain oriented as they are, and in the case of the partial slot, remain in their original position. I feel like I'm close, but just...

    SolidWorks to PIM

We used to have a milling machine on the shop floor that could import DXF files. That machine was replaced by a more complicated machine (with a Fagor 8055 mill controller) that requires *.PIM files for importing. Is it possible to get from a model or drawing in SW to this type of file? I'll...
