Dims from 3D vs ISO 2768

Many thanks for your replies. Now everything is clear for me.

Dims from 3D vs ISO 2768

Hello, I've just studied ISO standard 2768 (Tolerances for linear and angular dimensions without individual tolerance indications). I couldn't find any information about dims taken from the 3D. I wonder if this standard is also applied to dims which can be taken only from 3D or not (dims which...

    Hybrid V/s Non Hybrid modelling

Hi, I agree with DBezaire. All my friends don't recommend to use hybrid design. Even in some customer enviroments, you don't have a possibility to use it, because it's switched off. best regards Michal77

RPS points designation acc. to ASME or ISO

Hello ImnotfromMars, RPS means - Reference Point System (German way - Referenz Punkt Systematik). It's very useful tool when you have 3D model in position to car line datum. You can indicate on the drawing these 3 points which are very useful for measurement guys. Then they are able to, acc to...

RPS points designation acc. to ASME or ISO

Hi, I cannot find anything about the way of designation of RPS points on the drawing acc. to ASME or ISO. Could you please give me some tip about a standard no. where I can find something about it? I know the customer way, but it's not enough in my case....... thanks in advance Michal77

Profile of a surface vs irregular shape as a datum

ajack1, I've tried to find correct way how to indicate, on the drawing, profile of a surface in relation to car line datum. I only found one drawing, where profile of a surface was in relation to X,Y,Z. For me this indication is clear and it looks OK, but I'm not sure what standard states in...

Profile of a surface vs irregular shape as a datum

ajack1 - my glass shape is in a 'car position' so on second thought, I'm going to use a carline master datum as you said. One thing which should be done, is to establish on the drawing the RPS points and points which should be measured on my 'red area'. Then I will put a table with coordinates...

Profile of a surface vs irregular shape as a datum

ewh, Last question from my side, please don't get nervous :) You stated: ....the irregular surface datum is itself related back to the three primary datum. Unfortunately it's little unclear for me...Is it mean that this surface is established in correct position in 3D and it's in relation to...

Profile of a surface vs irregular shape as a datum

    Now should be fine.... http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=4ad270f3-2d02-40b6-a3af-f7a6dd4d6246&file=10.jpg

Profile of a surface vs irregular shape as a datum

Thanks a lot for your support. I would like to show you, why I need an irregular shape as a datum. On attached file you can see simplification of a glass shape which is completely irregular (don't take into consideration the borders, they are not important). You can measure only openings for...

Profile of a surface vs irregular shape as a datum

I wonder if it is possible to refer profile of a surface to a datum which is an irregular shape. Please take a look on attached example. Let say that drawing is acc. to ASME (but in this case I'm not sure that there is a difference between ISO and ASME). Many thanks for any remarks. michal 77

    Simulation without DMU?

magicmurali, I suggest to delete this angle constrain and then use 3D compass on selected part in the assy.Pressed shift button will allow you to move parts only with respect to constrains. To make movie just use - Tools/Image/Video. I hope it will help.

Position tolerance of the opening which is in distance from the datums

Hi Brandy7, In both cases you are right, it was done by accident. I was so concentrated on position tolerance of the opening, that I missed this....

Position tolerance of the opening which is in distance from the datums

Y14.100 series sounds interesting, I'll check out this.... I've been once in UK during my business trip, very interesting country. I'm going to create a new post, because there is still some questions which should be figured out by me, so I hope we'll be in touch. Best regards Michal PS -...

Position tolerance of the opening which is in distance from the datums

Thanks KENAT:) Normally in Poland we use ISO standard, but sometimes like for example in my case, we make drawings according to ASME. I assume that it depends on country from which company is. My automotive company is from Canada, so it's probably a reason of my adventure with ASME. Hmmmmm I...

Position tolerance of the opening which is in distance from the datums

Hello, I speak Polish. Honestly apart from Catia v5, GD&T is some kind of my hobby :) I've read a few books about GD&T and I know one thing. The more books you have read about GD&T, the more questions about GD&T appear.... Best regards Michal

Position tolerance of the opening which is in distance from the datums

Hi, First of all I want to say, that I completely agree with you guys (powerhound and KENAT) and I really don't want to quarrel with you. For me everything what you are saying is clear and I agree with your opinions. If you cannot get may intention of controling the opening in 3D, it's probably...

Position tolerance of the opening which is in distance from the datums

Oops, sorry for my last incomprehensible sentence in previous post :) But I assume that my main message was clear. Now we can control the position of the opening in 3D.

Position tolerance of the opening which is in distance from the datums

Hi, OK guys, I've just updated my drawing according to your remarks. Hmmmmm now it should be fine. In short - I cancelled datums B and C in shape tolerance callout, new datum was created (D) and I changed datum's order in position tolerance callout (I assume that callout means frame in other...

Position tolerance of the opening which is in distance from the datums

Hi, Many thanks for your quick reaction and very instructive replies :) Daily I work with drawings acc. to ASME but also I'm in touch with ISO. Powerhound - My main goal was to control everything (control position of the opening in 3 directions). I know that profile tolerance doesn't have an...
