    Stainless Steel Piping

Thanks for the feedback both of you. Load on support I am expecting less than 1000lbs and 2" of insulation. Carbon steel member and U-bolt will be in insulation, with very small axial movement. I will look into this.

    Stainless Steel Piping

Hello, What is experience on 18" stainless steel pipe sitting on carbon steel support steel with U bolts around it. The pipe wall thickness is 0.25" carrying DNCG gas. Is that okay to let the pipe sit on carbon steel structure. Do we need posion pad? The pipe is at 200F.

    Structural steel paltforms deflection criteria

Hello, I would appreciate if some body can comment on my assumptions.

    Structural steel paltforms deflection criteria

Thank you all for the feedback. I am assuming live load of 60 psf and collateral&dead load of 20 psf. I am considering using L/360 for live of 60 psf and for (live load 60 psf + col& dead load 20 psf) using defelction criteria of L/240. Will this be good design criteria. I also agree your...

    Structural steel paltforms deflection criteria

Hello, I am intersted to know what deflection criteria to be used on steel platforms with grating. (L/240 or L/360). And if grating strength can be used to assume the platform beam top flange laterally braced to select smaller members.

    B31.3 Piping Manufacturing

Thank you, yes means, do they need to be stamp holders?

    B31.3 Piping Manufacturing

Hi, Can B31.3 piping can be fabricated by any non-ASME stamp holder, as long they meet all quality requirements under B31.3. or is it absolute requirement that these vendors be atleast one of these stamp holders. (PP or S or U)

    Composite Plates

Hello, I have a situation where I have composite 304L(0.063")/SA 515 Gr70(0.187")plate and would like to laser cut instead water jet cutting. Can we really laser cut composite plate and what are the limitations?

    Nat.gas piping

HEllo, In designing Nat.gas pipe valve racks for burners, and I am wondering what code should I be using to build this. ASME B31.3 or B 31.1.

ASME Section II Part D Stress Values

Hello TGS4, Some interpretations I-83-01 & I-95-03 which talks about similar cases. We have not checked with Jursidiction and it's in US.

ASME Section II Part D Stress Values

That's correct. You might know, codes does not require the materials to meet every Section II propeties after fabrication, like bending, heat treatment etc. So, once you alter the material properties, it is up to the designer how to interpret and apply these values within certain boundary...

ASME Section II Part D Stress Values

Hello Jte, I am not sure about your question. I am fully aware of the ASME Section I and VIII, and this is a situtation where we have tubes are chromized and in the process the stress values are reduced. Trying to justify the tubes for pressure containment using the allowables within code limits.

ASME Section II Part D Stress Values

Hello, One more thing, I am wondering, is it okay to arrive allowable stress based on tensile stress values, even if the yields are much less than code minimum and 2/3 of yields is higher than tensile based stress values. For eg.60/3.5=17100 psi and 2/3*27Fy=18000 psi. Is this detrimental as...

ASME Section II Part D Stress Values

Thamk you very much for the feedback, and it is clear in Appendix 1. Appendix 10 is something different.

ASME Section II Part D Stress Values

Hello, I am looking for ASME stress value tables for SA 210 A1 material and I know these are based on certain criteria according to ASME Section II Part D, Appendix 10. However, when I see allowbale stress values for SA 210 A1 at 100-650 F, it is 17100 psi. And this value is not matching to...

    Explosion Corner on Fluidbed boilers

Thanks for everybody's input. I agree with most of your comments. It is commonly accepted practice to have weak corner design in recovery boilers as compared to fluid bed boilers. I am trying to assist a definite reason, if there is one, to use one on fluid bed boilers and if do use, will...

    Explosion Corner on Fluidbed boilers

Does anybody know what are the NFPA guidelines in specifying safety or explosion corners in fluidbed boilers. I know for sure that we use on recovery boilers. Especially with USA laws. Any help is appreciated.
