    Bolts, Can they be machined?

Welding to bolts is generally a no-no for two reasons. The plating on the bolt interferes with the welding process, and welding usually does no good to the heat-treat of the bolt. Those are the generalities, there are always exceptions. As part of R&D it's a rare day that I don't machine a bolt...

    Hydraulic brake basics

Anyone contending that the bores ratio isn't much of a consideration has obviously never driven a vehicle where the ratio was off. In a non power system you can have a pedal effort that ranges from rock hard with minimal stopping power to an excessively spongy, air in the lines kind of feel...

    Titanium Brakes

I was recently sent this chart, but we were specifically talking about steel so I had no idea if it was relevent to TI: TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT COLOUR SCALE CHART Lowest visible red 475° C 525° F Lowest visible red to dark red 475-650° C 525-1202° F Dark red to cherry red 650-750° C...

    Titanium Brakes

Can't help with TI temp vs color. Perhaps google? What sort of heat dams are employed? Floating or fixed rotors? I'm presuming an aluminum hat of some sort. Are you measuring temps at the hsg?

    curious about engine breaking

Ever calculated the effective Horsepower of your brakes? It IS enlightening. Make it easy on yourself, use .5 for the pad Cf.

    aluminum spindles

I'll venture that a fabricated steel upright can approach the weight of a Aluminum forging w/o giving up any rigidity. Check out some of the uprights on Chaparral's.

    Titanium Brakes

Stambee, It is normal for newer pad compounds to transfer some material to the rotor's surface. Though it sounds like you are getting an excessive transfer. Is the transfer the same regardless of compound used?

    Crankcase Breather Systems

Drag racers have used the check valves found on GM Air Injection systems to pull a vacuum on the crankcase. They typically weld a piece of pipe, w/ male threads, at an angle pointed downstream onto the header collector. A crucial detail is a gap or slot at the base of the pipe to bleed off some...

    Torque curve placement

My take on it is a bit different. What RPM will it mostly cruise at? I would set peak torque to be at, or slightly greater than this RPM. Fuel mileage with today's fuel prices is an important consideration when you're driving a 460.

    Looking for a strange rotor...

If the wilwood rotor would work other than for the offset, buy it and the correct offset hat. Then machine the rotor to bolt to the hat.

    Engine Torque Strap

I too have been down the chain/strap/cable path. I've found that a mount of this design: http://www.autofab.com/2wd460.htm works better. NVH may be an issue using urethane as the above does, however if you order a Metro Molded Parts catalog you can choose a rubber leaf spring eyelet bushing to...

    Titanium Brakes

URL didn't work for me. Is it now dead? That whole qouted statement leaves me with the impression he doesn't really know all that he's talking about. In my two years designing at Wilwood what I had yet to learn about brakes was frequently made obvious to me by my various projects. This...
