help!! My Solid stucks all of a sudden!

I have my new "dream" system, running Nvidia 5600 with an "approved" driver, and all up to date. SOLID WORKS 2007 SP4 Freezes CONSTANTLY! And generally sucks worse than ever. This is an 11,000 computer. SW RX says everthing is fine. I've achieved the goal of faster rendering times. But now I...

    Finally Got the Dream System

I haven't recieved SW 2008 yet, and plan on waiting a few months prior to loading. Can you tell me what you mean by the Real View scenes? Can one actually do some interactive rendering using background imagery?

    Finally Got the Dream System

WOW! Thanks for the tip, I'd not even heard of it. As soon as it supports decals and custom textures, it looks as if it could become VERY popular. I'm going to see if I can try it out!

    Finally Got the Dream System

Hi there, yes, still running SW and photoworks. I'm a little leary about Maxwell based on some of what I've read. I just recieved Photoshop CS3 Extended, which supports 3-D models, this may solve some of our problems in visualizing in "realistic" environments with perpective matching.

    SW 08 Glitches

What problem are you specifically refering to? I will have to undertake the same process shortly. SW 07 so severely interupted our normal operations for so long, that my supervisors are afraid to even mention 08.

    Finally Got the Dream System

Hello, Well, I finally got that dream system I'd posted about previously. In short x2 Quad Core Xeons X5365 3 GHZ CPU's Nvidia Quadro FX 5600 x2 150 GB 10,000 RPM WK Raptor X NCQ 16 MB Chache Running Raid 0.....as well as a host of other goodies. All told around 11.5k in the system and...

Will Photoworks be fixed or improved with SW 2008?

Yes, I've created many nice POP renderings with SW 2006 and below, I used to make it work for me just fine. I could take a low res image of a pile of baked beans from the internet, use the bump map gleaned from that file, and apply it to selected faces to achieve an almost perfect texture match...

Will Photoworks be fixed or improved with SW 2008?

Hello, I know you are supposed to be able to toggle it on and off, I wish I could?? On my system. I used the preview window ONE TIME. Toggled it off, and now it is greyed out and does not allow you to click it, because for all intents and purposes, the funtionality is gone? I've tried to add...

Will Photoworks be fixed or improved with SW 2008?

Thanks all, I'm just plain afraid to download 2008, at this point, I still haven't recovered from the 2007 debacle. It has led to being able to obtain a faster, multiprocessor sysetem, but I have serious doubts as to wheter that will effect anything at all. I'm rendering POP displays from as...

Will Photoworks be fixed or improved with SW 2008?

Question says it all, is anyone in the know about any changes to Photoworks with SW 2008. I'm currently shopping around for a 3rd party rendering engine, and Maxwell makes me nervous based on some of the informations I've read... ie, that it is still pretty much Beta software. (But then again...

If you could have your dream system?

Ok, Here goes... This is the system that I have proposed. Along with the purchase of Maxwell Render Plug In for Solidworks. Thanks to all who have helped out, and any more advice would be welcome! Intel® Xeon™ to Quad Core & 32GB FB-DIMM SDRAM! Xi Computers won: 1998 BYTEBest, 1992-2001...

    Next Engine

I agree, it's a toy that creates alot of tedious work in the surfacing arena. It is a step in the right direction and hopefully the affordable units will move toward higher resolutions. I saw a demo when it first came out and it was laughable. If you have 90 hours a week to tweek minute surface...

If you could have your dream system?

Hello, I too have experienced Dell "Hell". However it was on my home system. Dell's lack of service was infuriating, they were also quick to misdiagnose the problem and have a service tech come and install "new" but actually refurbished components. My current Dell is why I will never go back...

    What's a body?

Using Multiple Bodies in the design process for one component is huge, and you will love it when you wrap your mind around the concept. Essentially, you can perform top down desing within a single part file now, rather than creating a component based assembly. Try this... Draw a box, the draw a...

    Relearning and order of importance

I would have to agree that well honed modeling skills are top priority. And thankfully the funnest skill set involved.

If you could have your dream system?

Stephan, I want to thank you for those system specs! I have recieved approval today to build a systems based upon your reply. I have been pricing all the options with Xi computers. What is your opinion of them as a company? I will be purchasing the Adobe Production Suite, and Lightwave 3D, or...

If you could have your dream system?

Lol,,... I got ya, but to tell you the truth, I'll believe that one when I see it! I no longer view new releases of SW with optimism. I will test 2008 for a month on my home system prior to loading at work. If photoworks can actually render glass and metal again against a plain white background...

If you could have your dream system?

Yes, I have tried Rhino, I like it for the most part, but as you have pointed out already, the rendering engine is sub par even to photoworks. What I'm trying to find is something better than photoworks, a rendering engine that allows real time previews and does not abrubtly end your workflow.

If you could have your dream system?

Thanks for the info, leaving room for software is a big issue, I'll check out the Xi systems as well. This whole process has opened a huge can of worms. The Marketing Dept, thinks everything can be solved by using a MAC... Oh brother. Thanks to all of the comments and research I've gotton a good...

If you could have your dream system?

Thanks Mx2street, actually, that is very close to what I had configured on Friday for the potential system. But I think I need to throw in the spaceball too! Forgot about that even being on my wishlist.
