    SW 2008 hardware question

I'm still not convinced that HP is the way to go, decided to save up for a bit longer and go for a T61p.

    Resizing

ModelRescaler! That was it! Yippeee! :) And as for search, I've tried "resize, "resizing", and pretty much every other keyword except "scale". Well color me embarrased... Cheers Cor!

    Resizing

Hello! I need to resize (scale down) a SW part. All features and relations have to stay the same, only smaller by a certain factor. What drives me mad is the fact that I had a macro for an older version of SW that does exactly that and now I can't find it anywhere, not on my drives or on the...

    SW 2008 hardware question

@Stefan: I have some very bad experiences with the HP range of machines. This may just be my bad luck but it has turned me off HPs for quite a bit of time to come. @sldwkmin: used laptop market is pretty much nonexistent around here. People ride their machines to the ground and anything...

    SW 2008 hardware question

I was running SW2007 just fine (albeit a bit slow) on a R50 machine. T61p should be able to eat it for breakfast. :) I guess I'll just save up for a few more months and get a T61P.

    SW 2008 hardware question

Wow! I really appreciate the quick response, guys! @CorBlimey: T60 and Z61 are not available for purchase around here any more, and T61 that has the suggested nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M instead of typical nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M exceeds my budget by roughly 50%. @KenMoz: SW lists your card as...

    SW 2008 hardware question

Hello there! It's me again. :) After having numerous compatibility issues with my old hardware I've decided to spring for a new laptop that will be able to cope with SW 2008. Right now I'm looking at a IBM Lenovo 61 line, a dual core machine with 2-4 gigs of ram and an external firewire disk...

    Textures

So now it sounds like your wanting textures and are not using PW? :) I'm sorry that things got out of sync here... I'm using PW, but I'm not all that proficient with SW yet to be able to ask succint questions :) So are you trying to render a texture? (that does not work) Are you adding...

    Textures

Textures in SW are not the same in PW. You will have to physically add a material to your part or a face, then render it. If you are using textures in SW they don't render. If you look at the help in PW it tells you how to create your own materials. Tried that, I can even locate some material...

    Textures

Do you mean they don't render when using PhotoWorks? If so, there is an option (somewhere) which forces PW to use the SW textures. That's exactly what I mean. I can see the textures just fine when working with the model, but they don't render. I'll look for the feature you speak of later today...

    Textures

"What video card do you have?It may be the problem." It's ATI Mobile xxxx, but that's not the issue (works fine eventhough it's not on the supported cards list). "Also, in SW Help, the index tab type "textures". " Been there, done that... no help...

    Textures

OK, I see that I didn't specify my problem enough. I can import textures and (sometimes) apply them to the model, but they don't render. Any way around it?

    Textures

Hello! I've received some very useful tips here in the past so here I go again. :) This is a veeery basic issue but I just can't get it right, even after all the rtfm-ing and googling. How does one import own textures into SW? I have some very nice textures that I need to use in the near...

    SW (PhotoWorks) illumination

Rockguy, this is exactly the feature I need... now I just have to upgrade :) Running SW2007 SP0.0 now... Regarding system requirements (real world ones :) ), how does SW2007 compare to SW2008?

    SW (PhotoWorks) illumination

If I have say a wall lamp that's always the same (including light bulb wattage or color, light direction and such), I'd welcome an option of bringing it to the scene as-is and not having to add each light and fiddle with it all over again... But I definately do see your point, in a complex assy...

    SW (PhotoWorks) illumination

Well that's too bad... Anyways, at least I got that straightened out :) Tnx for your input Rockguy...

    SW (PhotoWorks) illumination

A quick question... does an assembly "inherit" lighting conditions from individual parts or is lighting defined only in "top" assembly? I'm getting some weird shadows that I'd like to understand. I'll be building a library of parts to be reused. Inheriting lighting would immensly simplify...

    Use real image in render

Sorry fellas, I was out of town. I've tried your suggestions and it worked like a charm! Cheerz!
  19. muddyfox

    Use real image in render

Thank you both for a quick reply! @Theophilus: I believe I've tried what you are suggesting. However, I'll try again later and if unsuccessfull will post the proceedings. I'm probably missing something... @Rockguy: Image resolution is even higher than the final rendered image resolution, so I...

    Use real image in render

Hello there! This might be a trivial issue but somehow I am unable to find a solution. I have a room modelled, and I would like to add a "window" to it... a cut in the wall that contains a jpg of a scenery. I've tried applying an image to the sketch. This works fine, but doesn't show when...
