A quick question... does an assembly "inherit" lighting conditions from individual parts or is lighting defined only in "top" assembly?

I'm getting some weird shadows that I'd like to understand.

I'll be building a library of parts to be reused. Inheriting lighting would immensly simplify setting lighting to the final assembly if let's say lamps that I use in my final scene contain point or spot lights defined in the basic part.

"Well that's too bad..."

Surely it's a good thing that illumination in a part does NOT propagate into a top level assy. The assy lighting would be a real mess if its component parts all had different and conflicting illumination settings.

If I have say a wall lamp that's always the same (including light bulb wattage or color, light direction and such), I'd welcome an option of bringing it to the scene as-is and not having to add each light and fiddle with it all over again...

But I definately do see your point, in a complex assy that might indeed be quite a problem.

Rockguy, this is exactly the feature I need... now I just have to upgrade :)
Running SW2007 SP0.0 now...

Regarding system requirements (real world ones :) ), how does SW2007 compare to SW2008?
