Radar level transmitters. They will give you the same analog feedback you are getting now. We use the Siemens LR560 on many silos (lime - CaO). On 1 particular silo it is programmed to ignore airborne dust and pick up the bed of material below it. While playing around in my office I could...
"The problem with 2 pots is that when they differ,
"you don't know which one is lying. So you need 3
"to do a majority vote."
I thought about that while I was lying in bed last night. Not sure why I really thought a redundant system was necessary. I have never had one fail...so one...
Is there a potentiometer option? If not, try a linear potentiometer (home @5v if using 0-10vdc)? Or 2 of them as redundant safeguards? A 10k pot can have pretty darn good resolution over 1". Not sure how accurate you need to be at startup. Found some decent looking units by searching...
Is upgrading or changing the motor an option? I agree with DickDV that a larger AC motor may really help.
I know it is a dirty word in a lot of circles, but have you looked at DC motor/drive combo's? We used DC for years on belt feeders that run slow and require a lot of torque.

I second jraef on the s7-1200. The step 7 basic software is easy to use and surprisingly powerful. It is the easiest hmi programming I have ever done.
Other micro plc's like the micrologix have rs232 communication, so you need AB's cable and a usb-rs232 adapter. The s7-1200 has the...
The siemens, weg, and AB drives that I have installed all had the shield grounded at both ends.
I hate to say it, but what does the wiring diagram in the manual show?

I actually just switched from the Asphalt/Aggregate/Concrete industry to Lime (CaO) production.
I think I can get the haulers to install the tags and maintain them since it is in their best interest to load quickly. Since we have a pretty limited group of haulers I can probably get it on each...
I am looking for a way to position trucks under loadout spouts without guidance from the control room.
Each truck can have different loading location along its length relative to the ends of the truck, as well as a different height.
I am looking for a RFID system/sensor that can do linear...
I should have mentioned in the previous post that most inverters have a "low voltage" fault that will protect the drive. So I would hesitate to blame it on low voltage.

I have never seen a linear actuator run that fast. I am assuming that you need to start from zero speed and then stop the rig at the end of the 90mm. That is pretty darn snappy...
I would look at pneumatic cylinders with a rubber/polymer bump stop on each end. If it needs to decelerate...
