    Storage tank implosion

The only times I have seen tanks that have "imploded" is when the vents have been taped up for sandblasting or painting and then someone moves product out of the tank. I've seen pictures where this happened to a remote tank where it was completely sucked in...to the point that the...

Calculate the dew point of natural gas if I know the composition?

speco and cbiber, Reading the initial thread the question is not about calculating when water droplets form. I believe that ladyCR is looking for the method for calculating the dewpoint of the natural gas stream...which is the point where the first droplet of hydrocarbon forms. Regards, Bob

Calculate the dew point of natural gas if I know the composition?

laydyCR, See my response to this in the Heat Transfer and Thermo thread. Regards, Bob

Calculate the dew point of natural gas if I know the composition?

ladyCR, Try the following link to Quest Consultants: http://www.questconsult.com/~jrm/thermot.html They have an on-line dew point calculator using the Peng-Robinson equation of state that should do what you need. I checked it using Peng-Robinson and a commercial simulator for a composition...

    Self Ignition of Hydrogen

kenvlach, Unfortunately it is not true when you make the statement that gases cool with expansion. At high pressure hydrogen is on the other side of the Amagat line (negative JT coefficient)...and it heats up when it expands. Since hydrogen is sometimes kept at extreme pressures, this is...

    Self Ignition of Hydrogen

H2 does heat up, but I believe you need a pretty extreme pressure drop to go from say 0 C to over 500 C (approx 9500 atmospheres using Peng Robinson). As you stated, the minimum ignition energy for hydrogen is very low (less than 10% of natural gas), so it wouldn't take much of a spark to...

improvement of octane number with ethanol

Hi SAA, Pro II will no doubt give an estimate of RON, but I'm not sure if it should be relied upon for an actual blending model. I'd tend to use ProII to identify an opportunity, then use actual test-run data to confirm if the opportunity really exists. I also believe that you are correct...

    Steam control to reboiler

I've worked with both configurations and would have to say that controlling using condensate flow gives a pretty poor result. These systems are prone to blowing the condensate seal at high loads, and as a result, Q rapidly decreases. People only put these schemes in because they are...

improvement of octane number with ethanol

22082002, Two gasolinhe components rarely blend in a linear fashion. The reference that TD2K suggests will likely describe the bonus or debit that you get when two materials are blended. If everything blended linearly, there wouldn't be a need for products such as WKBlend. Regards, Bob

Max. Viscosity in FCC MC Bottom

Hi, I'm not sure if limiting the viscosity will be you most economic solution. Most want to limit decant (MCB) production within the product specifications. Have you looked at injecting one of the newer antifoulants designed for this service to keep your heat transfer equipment clean? Talk...

    H2S Levels in Natural Gas

Hi guys, I hate to preach, but... :-) When dealing with H2S, your first concern is to the workers, not other parts that will be exposed during a leak. As pointed out, a leak with 600 ppm H2S is extremely dangerous. Also, mentioned above, H2S is heavier than air, and you can't rely on your...

Ellipsoid caps' volume for vert vessel

Hi Mogens, I may be wrong, but I believe the equations posted in that thread were for the metal volume (to arrive at the weight of the head). The vessel volume is quite a long expression with a lot of arc tans, etc... Regards, Bob

    New Technology

I believe that LCFining fits in your 20 year window... Other processes are: Unicracker, Oleflex, Isosieve, Molex, Penex, TIP/Safecat (Total Isomerization Process - C5 Isom), BenSat, Solid bed alkylation, Ethermax..... Regards, Bob

TO POTECT AN AUSTENITIC ST ST. DURI

The stress corrosion cracking is caused by polythionic acid attack which occurs when the austenitic stainless steel is exposed to air and moisture. Even if there isn't much sulfur present, we usually assume that there is a layer of sulfide scale that will form polythionic acid when there is O2...

TO POTECT AN AUSTENITIC ST ST. DURI

I don't think it matters too much what you use to make the blend, as long as the final mix is correct. Hopefully someone can comment on the pumping rates...I always thought was the main thing was that everything was completely soaked with the solution, so I'm not certain that a high rate is...

Ellipsoid caps' volume for vert vessel

I'm not sure if I completely understand your question, but if you want to calculate the volume of a semi-elliptical head, the GPSA handbook has a method that works quite well. Regards, Bob

    New Technology

I'll toss one in... How about catalytic distillation (for MTBE production, selective hydrogenation, etc)? I'm sure there's many more. Regards, Bob

    Viscosity Conversion

I remember that Twu had a viscosity correlation that was (and probably still is) very popular. Also look for jounal papers by Perdersen or Lorentz-Bray-Clark. While some methods may be a bit complex, the correlations are available. Viscosity is pretty difficult to predict with great accuracy...
